This is ridiculous: Disabling Windows Defender & MSE for the tool that is accessing the file system most frequently and so where you are exposed to the risks of infected files at most.
This is like having the airbags of a car disabled as soon as it starts driving.

Seriously, remove that section from the FAQs as for a file manager this is pretty embarrassing.

If our company would recommend our customers to disable their firewalls and security proxies (which most often cause trouble for sophisticated web streaming applications) we would get out of business very soon.

I don't use either of those products but based on what I know/read, what is being disabled is that XY itself is to be considered safe but not the files that it accesses which is a totally different thing...you appear to be mixing the two into one.

Why? It's the cause for many of the slowness issues reported here and the fix doesn't affect overall security unless you consider XY itself to be a threat.

Note that is says to disable them just briefly...not for any extended period....or...one could simply add XY to the exclusion list without doing so and see if that resolves the issue.

Back when I was running another security software appl, I had to add a few programs to its exclusiion list as otherwise I'd get overwhelmed with false prompts and that's not unusual...

Well, I'm not allowed to set any excluded processes here at work where we use this MS security product so I can't say how it really affects performance. But as far as I understand it, excluding processes means also excluding the process (not just the exe file) from the real time scanner which means files that are accessed by XY don't get scanned. Otherwise it makes no sense because what else should lead to a noticeable slow down?

The term briefly hasn't been used in this section of the FAQ. They just say, disable the virus scanner for a moment to see if it affects performance and in a second step you need to add XY to the excluded process (which is permanent if you don't delete those rules again).

I wonder if my private computer's anti virus software AntiVir has an option to exclude processes like this.... I will see.

What j_c_hallgren said was correct. When you exclude a process, ONLY that process gets excluded and nothing else. The problem however... is XYplorer's method of extracting icons. I don't think Don fully got that working the way it is expected yet since it behaves as if it's going to read the entire file just to extract the icons, this triggers antivirus's software as if a program is completely being opened up so it ends up scanning the files. Let see if Don replies to this...

You could run Process Monitor (ProcMon) from Sysinternals to see how "other" programs are opening the files.
