Slow first time startup

Post by Robbson »

Hi,

the first time I start XYPlorer it takes 25s which is far too long. Especially when I accidentally use the Explorer and then need a specific feature so I have to wait and wait and wait... so quite often I even don't wanna start XY at all.
It's not related to network drives because especially my hard disk is pretty busy at startup and very loud during the whole time.

Maybe it's related to the open tabs (8 incl. some search results) but there are not many files listed. In that case it would be great to have a lazy loading of all the tabs beside the one selected lastly.
I don't know, it seems to scan a lot of files, maybe I need to start a file monitor to see what's happening in the background.

I already activated the generic icons and disabled overlays (even these are a must have for version control integrations) but I think those settings are more related to general file browsing in XY which is otherwise ridiculous slow and permanently blocking when used in a company environment (where anti virus tools are always activated). But this is another issue which I already reported some months earlier which unfortunately still makes XY the worst performing explorer replacement I know of.

Thanks,
Robbson

PS:
There's already an older topic related to this but it was more about network access slow downs and slow startups in general.

My guess for the slowness is your Antivirus app scanning XYplorer as well as all files/folders it's going to display when it's starting up, at once.
Easy way to debunk: what happens when you restart XY so that the tabs contain only empty/relatively small folders?

Quite a while ago I mentioned that after a particular updated new version, that the very first time I start XYplorer after the computer is turned on, it takes a bit longer than subsequent times.

I do have a two computer network with the other computer off 99.9% of the time, so I may have some network settings that make it inspect the situation first. Or it may be the time needed to read the files in the two preset tabs.

Once XYplorer has been started the first time, it stays snappy unitl the machine is turned off and on again.

I had slow startup too and made some modifications: exclude XYplorer exe from Avira Antivir scan, put network in cache in options and activate MiniTree. The last manipulation seems to work nice as XYplorer launches now pretty fast.
