Hello,
I am using your nice explorer in vmware in a virtual windows 8.1.
There are two network shared folders.
If i start xyplorer normal it twill see the shared folders, but then
i can’t make any new folders in the start programs folder.
If i start xyplorer as administrator, then ik can make new folders in
the start program folder, but it does not see the shared folders anymore.
My question is if there is a solution for this problem
Thanks for helping
Ron Doomen

Re: Xyplorer in vmware (virtual)
Hello Ron and welcome to the board.
This behavior has nothing to do with VMware, it is by design, as Microsoft calls it. Network shares are user centered, when you run XY as administrator it is a different user, who doesn't see the share the original user could see.
You can find more information here: http://superuser.com/questions/690287/c ... ped-drives or here: http://superuser.com/questions/690287/c ... ped-drives.
The workaround with the registry key mentioned in both articles might work, it certainly did in Windows 7, but I'm not sure if it still works in Windows 8+. If it doesn't, the only help would be to reconnect to the shares as administrator, or to swith UAC off completely (not recommended!).

Re: Xyplorer in vmware (virtual)
Thanks for your answer, but i have tried Directory Opus and Speedcommander and they don't have that "problem".
I do not have to start these programs as administrator en still they see the shares and i can make new folders in de program folder.
Only Xyplore does not. My UAC is already complety off, but that does not make any difference.
Anyone any idee whre to find a solution.
Thanks.

Yep, I'm aware of this problem. It's a bit of a mystery to me. I tried several times but always failed to solve it (i.e. to pop the elevation prompt). One day I will manage...make new folders in de program folder.

This MUST be related to my UAC problems http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11443
Just like rondd says, for elevated rights I need to start XY as admin under certain circumstances, which is not the case with other managers.

I am very confident that this will solve my crashes as well.admin wrote:Yep, I'm aware of this problem. It's a bit of a mystery to me. I tried several times but always failed to solve it (i.e. to pop the elevation prompt). One day I will manage...make new folders in de program folder.

Re: Xyplorer in vmware (virtual)
I think I've found a way to create new folders in the Program Folders: Instead of using the "New Folders" (Ctrl+N) command, right click in the Program Folder, select "New Items" and from the popup menu click the "New" item with the folder symbol. This will trigger the UAC prompt and you can create the folder.

And this is exactly the step that will deny XY access on some of my systems. It works fine on systems where I have full access as admin. And it won't work on systems with more refined levels of elevated rights.Statler wrote: This will trigger the UAC prompt and you can create the folder.

Indeed, good find! (I must have overlooked it.) Small drawback: the prompt talks about "copying" a folder, not creating a folder. But's that much better than failing completely.grindax wrote:Don, could this finding by Statler be the key to getting certain operations to succeed under UAC? What is 'New Items' doing differently to 'New Folder' that causes the UAC prompt to appear?Statler wrote:I think I've found a way to create new folders in the Program Folders: Instead of using the "New Folders" (Ctrl+N) command, right click in the Program Folder, select "New Items" and from the popup menu click the "New" item with the folder symbol.
