autonext
@ JC
Strictly speaking in opt 2, PN is not playnext because it doesnt play anything when it jumps to next. I would call it "List advance" instead.
Personally, opt 2 is something i would never use. It makes me think, jump to next and do what?? Atleast i dont remember seeing such an option in any audioplayer.

Really cool indeed
Yet a little something that jc mentionned already, for keyboard users pressing Space will loose any multi-selection, so if one select a bunch of files and has Play Next but not Autoplay (famous opt2 mentionned above) there's no easy way to start playing, since Space would loose the selection, while menu/click on progress bar does not obviously!
@jc: As I said, actually the play next works like you want it to, but not when using Space to start playing. If you can start playing by clicking on the progress bar you'll get exactly want you're looking for I think.

I can control my playlists nicely by keyboard only using Ctrl+Space 2-times to change the current focus plus arrow keys and Shift.
I mean, hey, that drum box was just a joke: it's a file manager...
And, I also thought that if autoplay is OFF and PN is ON then next played file should autostart playing anyway. In other words: PN sets AP = True implicitly. Is that what you (whoever that is) wanted?

Surrender, while I agree that opt 2 (PN=Y,AP=N) seems a bit misnamed, it does allow users (like me) to handle files as I desire...there are times when I want to play files one at a time, with a manually controlled pause between, while I'm doing other tasks, so having it move to next file to get ready to play allows me to keep track of where I'm at in list...A case where proper documentation to explain why it works that way is the solution, IMO.
Jacky (and Don), is there a good and valid reason why spacebar couldn't work to control start/stop on multi-selection? I'm having a mind-blank..

Not sure how you do it, assuming you have Play Next but Autoplay OFF, Ctrl+Space will unselect/select the file allright, but how do you get it to start playing?admin wrote:I can control my playlists nicely by keyboard only using Ctrl+Space 2-times to change the current focus plus arrow keys and Shift.
That's what been discussed, and I think jc wasn't for such a change. And it could be useful to have XY not set autoplay on implicitely, I mean it's a file manager not a media playeradmin wrote:And, I also thought that if autoplay is OFF and PN is ON then next played file should autostart playing anyway. Edit: @jc: I think that's just because of how XY works with the key, for example pressing Space with no files selected at all will give selection to the focused one.
Might be just the way it's handled internally now, and maybe Don can fix it.

JC and Jacky, Please excuse me if i dont understand. but why is it so important to move to next?? I thought one can still keep track of the list or write down stuff with option 1 (PN=OFF, AP=OFF).
OK, i understand that you dont have to use arrowkey to move to next and push spacebar to play. I can think of only this, is it so??

I did not try it with autoplay OFF.jacky wrote:Not sure how you do it, assuming you have Play Next but Autoplay OFF, Ctrl+Space will unselect/select the file allright, but how do you get it to start playing?admin wrote:I can control my playlists nicely by keyboard only using Ctrl+Space 2-times to change the current focus plus arrow keys and Shift.

Ah yes, okay. Again a good point against implicit smartness.
About that spacebar, I'll do something...

"Different strokes for different folks" is what comes to mind!
I don't mind, and actually normally prefer, using spacebar to start/stop vs autoplay...so that's not part of this issue...
But when a particular file is done playing, having XY optionally move to next makes it a bit more convenient, as I then don't have to ask myself...after maybe a looooooooong pause doing something else, did I already play that one or not? Especially if files are variants of same music with quite similar names...It's known as "pre-senior moments"!

I think we've properly addressed the need for PN=Y & AP=N so now onto this...j_c_hallgren wrote:Also, when PN=Y and AP=Y, it cycles thru the list over and over...I'd like to see the ability to do list just once and then stop...to make this compatible with drums (and other users), it would thus need to be a selectable option.
Jacky, Surrender, Don & others: Anyone else see this a valid need or is it just me? I see it somewhat related to a batch process, in that after first pass is complete, the job is done...but I can fully understand the need to repeat until user intervention...not sure how best to handle this dual need.
Maybe a restoration of the "loop" context option with a new purpose?

Well the loop is definately a must for the drumboxj_c_hallgren wrote:Maybe a restoration of the "loop" context option with a new purpose?
My idea for this would be to add a new playback option, along with "play once", "play again" and "play next" have a "play next and loop" ?

Something i mis in autonext...
Hi,
First of all, i love the new autonext feauture, so much thanks for putting that in! ;-).
What i missed the most was to autoplay only selected files, what is programmed in the latest beta, and works good, great again! ;-)
Now something else:
If the preview tab is activated, and you select other files with ctrl, then it starts playing the latest selected file, is there a way to select multiple files while the first selected file keeps playing (afcourse, when it's at the end of the file, preview the following selected file)?
Edit: Also, when you first select multiple files with your mouse, then the files are not previewed, going back to the properties tab and then to the preview tab doesn't activate preview either, any way to activate the preview on previously selected files? this would also be great toghether with the selection filter, for example you can select all files with the name of your favourite music group with the selection filter, and with the autplay next option only your favourite group songs will play...
and some other tips for preview (yes i know it's not a media player, but it comes in handy for deleting unwanted media files also), and actually, i even begin to prefer xyplorer as media player with the autonext feauture :p)
3 buttons maybe under the sound bar:
- a mute sound button
and now, with the autonext function:
- a previous button (just a < sign to click on is ok, it doesn't have to be a graphical button) -> this is to go faster trough the media files
- a next button (just a > sign to click on is ok, it doesn't have to be a graphical button)
Greetings,
Steve

Greetings,

a bug
Looplist option sounds good, especially if one has drumbox like files then it would go on and on.
My personal problem is XYs ability to play automatically when i click on a file. If I am wanting to rename a file then i have to use rightclick rename or turn off AP.
A bug: While renaming a file if preview moves to next file then the next file disappears and click anywhere on list doesnt help. Switching tab back and forth brings back normal state.

I think we all agree it's NOT a media player, so let's not get TOO carried away with feature requests!itsme28m wrote:(yes i know it's not a media player, but it comes in handy for deleting unwanted media files also), and actually, i even begin to prefer xyplorer as media player with the autonext feauture :p)

Having said that, I could see using a right-click on Vol bar for mute on/off toggle, and when muted, the bar color would go to gray or similar..
For now, I'd suggest just using the system speaker icon in systray to invoke mute.
Prev/next buttons? Not sure how previous could be handled, but 'next' can somewhat be done via moving current file pos to end of file.
