lock IP tabs

Post by bdeshi »

Any suppporters for the the ability to lock the IP tabs to a particular item? At least the preview tab? Probably as a right click item in the tab context menu.

bumpty-bump

Also, by way of example, If we can "lock the IP tabs to a particular item, at least the preview tab", this is how XY can become a 2.2-pane file manager (the bottom pane only counts as .2 because it's WE)

in the same way, it'sit'll be also possible to use XY as a makeshift media player. lock the preview Pane to a playing media file, and keep browsing.

It also might help in cases where you have Preview active, select the file for edit via WordPad and then attempt to save and get the "File in Use" error cause if I was able to 'lock' preview to another file, then I'd avoid this..ok, so there may be other existing ways to avoid this (such as swapping to Properties tab, etc) but I've had this occur a few times in last day or so and it's an irritation.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

I imagine that even if there was a lock icon in the status bar the nature of this feature would require a bar similar to the Visual Filter and Search ones shown in the list.

There's also the question of if locked does "Find Files > Name > Selected Locations" applied to the locked location or the current one?

Plus the headers for the Report sub-tabs must reflect the correct location.

(Truth be told, I'd rather see the entire IP be reorganized and restructured but I haven't found the time to construct a proper wish with constructive suggestions.)

@hallgren, I suppose I can live with the tradeoff, after all, I'll know which file is locked. EDIT> and XY should give higher priority to file operations, ie, a locked file will be unlocked when needed <EDIT And if it's implemented as a tweak, then normal users won't accidentally enable this and have a bad impression.

I'll be happy with only the preview pane getting this function, that way, normal use of other tabs won't be hampered or need to be changed. Although I guess modifying the IP tabs selectively might be slightly irritating for Don...

Actually I had this idea myself quite a while ago, but the current way is too deeply hardcoded. Changing it would be too much work respectively would have too many side-effects.
