Re: Boolean Search Category (or so)
I did have feeling that this wouldn't work for heterogeneous terms when I saw that it achieves skipping the Ex1-5/Tags/Labels/Comment in the pattern type.
I trust many would prefer a combination pattern in the search field rather than having the ability to skip some letters in the items. I would always write it in complete as it would give the flexibility of moving an item from one category to another.
So the location field for main category can be
* /t - Search everything in tag database
*? Ratings:"" /t - Search items in tag database with no rating
*? Tags:"Images" and Ratings:"" /t - Search items in tag database that are tagged Images and have no rating
I am sorry if I wasn't very clear the first time, but I didn't image you would implement this would /fld stuff and hence tried to keep my example with a single search criteria.

Re: Boolean Search Category (or so)
Phase 1 is completed now.
BTW, the /fld switch is a VERY cool addition, so thanks for your pushing!

Re: Boolean Search Category (or so)
Ok. I won't push any further. I hope you find it good enough for Phase II.
Congrats Don on another great feature.

The /fld is really great. Look at the screenshot. Something similar could be done by Power Filter, but not on this level!

Harping back to the title of this thread, how about making the default icon a bit more telltale:

Re: Boolean Search Category (or so)
I would certainly prefer the operator not tied to the category. Let the checkbox have those options. Left click - AND, Right Click - OR
That would be more power.
But this would certainly give rise to ambiguity
A and B or C is (A && B) || C or A && (B || C)
But that can be managed.

Re: Boolean Search Category (or so)
No, too confusing. The main goal here is simplicity.

I agree. Intricate nested patterns can easily get out of hand, XY has other means to cover these with more elaborate interfaces.admin wrote:The main goal here is simplicity.
CAS should keep up it's current balance between just enough versatility and easy handling.

Re: Boolean Search Category (or so)
Even I agree that nested patterns should be avoided. But if there are five sub-categories, two or three should be freely either AND-ed or OR-ed.
If users use both AND and OR, let it be resolved as Left to Right or whatever the default is. Just asking for the possibility to remove the operator from the main category and keep it click based.
But again just while typing this, I understand the complexity it would create and may actually better be left as it is.

Sorry I'm a bit behind in updating...admin wrote:I'll check that...SammaySarkar wrote:[doesn't warrant new topic|inspired by catalog search category]
Search category has a nice icon. Why can't normal categories be iconified too?
Tried this as category caption, didn't work:
Tasks|<xyicons>\stickynote.ico
Icons do work on category items though.
As someone who prefers the clean minimal look of all text categories could it please be made so that a category with caption ending in '|' hides any default icon it may have?
