No Context Menu With Multiple Files and Unkown EXT

Post by Dave-X »

Hello,

I'm using version 13.60 and having the problem of no right-click context menu appearing when selecting multiple files. If one file with an unknown extension (not registered), is selected with multiple files of any extension, the context menu will not appear and cannot be accessed. However, the menu will appear if a single file with an unknown extension is selected, or any number of known extensions is selected. I am not sure if this has been fixed in later version, a known problem, or a unique case.

Thanks

I don't think this is XY's fault. Probably some 3rd party shell extension is causing it...

I haven't been able to fix this and it's been such a problem that I tested it on two other systems. One of them did the same thing and I can't right-click with multiple unknown files. The second does actually work. So, I have two systems with the problem and one without. All are running similar/same software and Win 7 x64. The only context editing software I use is FileTypeMan http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/file_types_manager.html but I only edit specific files after a format. The edits are the same on all three systems.

Quick Edit: I've been using both FTM and XY for years, but this problem only recently appeared after my last format and update.

If you have this ticked, try to untick it:
Configuration | Shell Integration | 64-bit Windows | Show the 64-bit context menu

On this page, the only option I have under 64-bit Windows is Show the real System32 directoy. I'm using version 13.60.0000

EDIT: I managed to this fix this. If Menus, Mouse, Safety | Context Menus | Hide shell extension from shell context menu is turned on, right-clicking unknown file extensions does not work. With it turned off, it works just fine. Bug?

No problem and it works now, so no worries. I'm sure it's something specific to my configuration. Just to be clear though, it only appeared after I updated XY and it's present on two systems I have. I've been using the same version of FTM with the same changes long before and with older versions of XY. If I can help in some way finding the cause, let me know.
