How to delete Favorites

Post by DetlevH »

Hallo,

if i add a folder to the favorites by "Toggle favorite folder" and the folder does'nt exist any longer (maybe because of an USB drive) then i can't delete these favorites. If i select them using right-click, nothing happens.

Created a dummy test folder to try this out...marked as Favorite...deleted it...then was able to remove it from Favorites via List Management just fine...which is only way that I see to delete a non-existing folder...so how are you trying to do it?

Where exactly are you trying to right-click on them?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Yes you are right. It works. But how about the question "Delete it from list?" in the message box "Can't find...."?

Best regards

Maybe I'm having a "senior moment", but when I try to access a deleted folder via menu "Favorites"->"Favorite Folders", I get a Info box with "Couldn't find location xxxxx" that only has an "Ok" choice...so where is this "Delete from list?" thingy?
I'm sure Don knows immediately where, but I'm still :?

Yes for "unexisting" ones it can only be done through LM.

Right, here too. Yet I am sure it used to ask if it should be removed or not! Maybe this behavior changed when the Catalog was added (and/or possibilities extended, ie with name searches, etc). All my Favorites are always there so I couldn't say...

There is no "Delete it from list?" in the current version. What version are you using?

It was just a recommandation for future version.

Ah, I see. Funny, because it has been there in earlier versions but at some point I took it out. The point was XY's portability I think. In a changing environment temporarily dead links are normal., so the question "Delete it from list?" looked a bit stupid.

The idea to mark/strike-through dead items in List Management is cool. Of course, I also could add a button "Remove the dead"...

Yes, there are times when "dead" links are not that, but just in a "suspended" state maybe...as folders on a thumb drive that likely isn't always plugged in...but when it is active, they ARE still 'favorites'...so...I'd thus much rather have any missing entries only marked so I could decide to keep or delete them..."Remove dead" would appear to clean up more than I'd want to, in some cases.

Some possible ideas for that 'mark' button label, that I can quickly think of, are: "Mark missing", "Verify entries", "Check existence", "Find obsolete", etc.
The appropriate entries could be flagged via a light colored background, maybe just a pale gray?
