@work: Two possible scenarios from the top of my mind:
1) Don knows a tweak to incorporate 64bit filters (like he did for 64contextmenus)
2) You tweak your registry to turn the 64bit into an x86. Search the web.

I am not doing that.
I tried this though:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums ... e901e56085
However, after altering the msi it still pops up another error message saying: "A newer version is currently installed." and installes nothing.

@Don: The web said that a 64bit-helper app could be build which uses the 64bit-iFilters and provides the resulting searchable plain text to the main 32bit-app. Just a thought. What do you think? (I am not applying for this job, though. ;) )

@Stef123: Thx for your help/input BTW.

EDIT: After uninstalling the MS Filter Pack from the isntalled programs list I was finally able to install the 32bit filter pack with the trick in the link. And now XY can successfully also search pub files. However, the error message in the picture pops up (as it seems at the end of the search).
error.jpg
And the odt-filter still does not work, however it seems that the active odt-filter is the one from apache not msicrosoft.
After messing around a little with the odt ifilter it seems to me that there is no way of making a 32 bit odt ifilter work (with XY) unless I uninstall my installation of openoffice (please help me if I should be wrong though), which I am not willing to do.

CONCLUSION: IMHO the only reasonable way for XY is a 64 bit helper app (as mentioned above) or a complete rewrite of XY in 64 bit after all again.

Argh.

I installed OpenOffice 4.0.1 (x86) on my x64 Windows and I can search ODT files with XY.

I don't see it that dark. I did not tweak anything special in my x64 system and XY can search the contents of DOC, DOCX, ODT, PDF, EML and probably other Office formats I did not test. All I did was install PDF-XChange and OpenOffice.

This error message is new after the mentioned 32 bit ifilter install.

Hmm, good for u. I have 3 different versions of openoffice (apache oo, libre office and another less known) installed side by side. maybe that causes problems?
as far as ms office, do u have it installed and if so which version?

Please try to isolate the conditions for this mysterious error.

No MS Office here.

ok, the odt-problem was because of my 3 different installations it seems.
after uninstalling all 3 and then installing only apache open office it now works also with odt.
doc and pdf always worked
pub works with the mentioned trick (and the error message after the search)
-> but docx does not work
I have no further idea at the moment.

Don, what do u think about installing MS Office on ur PC for testing purposes?

did I already mention that I hate microsoft?
If uninstalling MS Office was an option I would do it, but I am only an employee in an office -> therefore it is not an option.

Same boat.. though I haven't tried installing OpenOffice.

Yesterday I also found that thread you linked above and used Orca to remove the bitness and the already installed check allowing me to get the 32 and 64 bit versions installed side-by-side, but still no luck. After which I started digging into the registry but haven't had any progress.

Assuming you installed the Win 7 SDK then you might also find the IFilter Test Suite which it includes useful. Those executables can be found in both:
%ProgramW6432%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1\Bin\
%ProgramW6432%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1\Bin\x64\

I've been using ifilttest and filtreg to determine if the issues I'm seeing originate in XY or are at the system level. Unfortunately, they all seem to be the latter. :(

v14.00.0000 - 2014-04-28 12:00
= NEW OFFICIAL RELEASE. Main developments since last release:
...
+++ Advanced Content Search. Now you can search the textual contents of
complex file types like DOC, DOCX, ODT, and PDF.
It is very dark. Especially since u made it official now still w/o it working right but u still ignore it.

With MS Office (32 or 64 bit does not matter) installed on a 64 bit OS (which IMHO is true for the majority in a commercial environment and still many people in private too) it simply does not work right since MS Office (32 or 64 bit does not matter) forces 64 bit iFilters onto your system (according to the inet and my own experience). If you are not able or willing to set up a testing environment that corresponds to the environment of the (vast) majority of the users and make features work in that environment then u really should not be selling such a feature. Better would be to sell it AND make it work.

Hope this is not formulated to harsh.

If you mean
No. According to Microsoft:

By default, Microsoft Office 2010 installs the 32-bit version of Office 2010 even if your computer is running 64-bit editions of Windows.

The 32-bit version of Office 2010 is the recommended option for most people, because it prevents potential compatibility issues with other 32-bit applications, specifically third-party add-ins that are available only for 32-bit operating systems.
Then no - while Microsoft may install the 32-bit version of Office 2010 on a 64-bit OS by default it will only ever install the filter pack corresponding with the OS's bitness.

The same is true if you attempt to install the "correct" filter pack from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=17062 Attempting to install the 32-bit version won't work on a 64-bit OS unless you modify it (as discussed above). EDIT: And even then I haven't found any success.

The first answer regarding changing the registry might work, but I didn't have much luck three weeks ago and haven't felt like digging into the mess of 32-bit consequences again.
