Unicode Support?

Does TrackerV3 support Unicode? I have some chinese songs on my computer and they have chinese filenames. Explorer shows them as they are meant to be seen as, chinese characters, but TrackerV3 just shows me several '???'. Ideas?

(I use Windows XP SP1)

Yep, this is a known issue. TrackerV3 does not support Unicode file names. And worse: it will never do, because the language it is written in (VB classic) does not support this. I know it's bad, but nothing can be done about it.

Arrrrr. Oh well. Is there anything at all I can do about this? Even (dare I mention) use another filemanager?

Well, I checked it: Unitoolbox might work, but -- apart from it being way too expensive -- I never ever use 3rd party products (learnt that the hard way

). So, it's a drag but: no Chinese for TrackerV3 (or vice versa).

Aww, crap. Oh well. I'll search for some lightweight Unicode Filemanager, just for my music files then. I'm sticking to TrackerV3 for the rest.

EDIT: What if I found a freeware, opensource equivalent? Would you use it then?

Hi Manifold,

I looked into it and now I'm even surer than before that Unicode will not happen in TV3. While it's theoretically possible to do it with VB (good to know!), it would practically mean to rewrite the whole app from zero, which I certainly will not do.

Just speaking theoretically here; if you were to rewrite the code of TV3 to support unicode, will the speed of the original still be in the new?

I would think it would be slightly slower. But after the time I would have finished that job, computers will be 4 times faster than now...
