Why doesn't XY see tablet?

Hi Troops,

Absolutely love XYplorer and have been using it for quite a while now, wouldn't think of using anything else. Having said that, I *still* haven't cut the ties to Windows Explorer. The lack of 64bit support is one reason but there are other glitches/problems that occasionally pop up.

Tonight for instance, plugged in a Samsung tablet (Note 8) and XYplorer could not, would not see it. Refreshed the screen, restarted the program, all to no avail. Windows Explorer had no trouble at all and saw it more or less instantly. All file transfers to the tablet whether I like it or not, have to be done with Explorer.

For the record, the OS is an up-to-date version of Win 7. Machine is USB 3.0 capable (although this was not used) with all the bells and whistles.

What gives? Am I missing something simple? Any ideas out there?

Yeah. The search function

Ok, so you joined forum some months ago and haven't posted till now...and you said you've been using XY for quite a while...fine...BUT...we would have expected that in all that time you'd been staying aware of what things are common threads here and known issues...so when highend said to search, it's because a simple search would have found MANY threads about this issue thereby making yours unneeded, see?

Because...as was pointed out, it's NOT currently supported and that fact is well known/disclosed...it's NOT a secret! I don't want to seem harsh, esp to a newbie here on forum, but your reply/attitude left me little choice.

Hello and welcome to the club!

This is on the roadmap as "Support for Non-Drive Devices" - note that the roadmap is not in any particular order.

Last word I recall was Don wanted to wait until he had his new Windows 8.1 machine set up, which happened recently, so he might return to attempting this after releasing 13.80.


Also, in case you missed it, v13.70 introduced access to the 64-bit context menu eliminating the biggest complaint regarding 64-bit support.

By the way the question is phrased, I think they meant "Lord, why do I have to search for my device with XYplorer when it should just automatically showed up" and not "Lord, Why do I have to search the forum?".

Anyways, it's not supported so nothing else to say.

Yes thank you, that was the intent of the question. I apologize, I don't spend a lot of time pouring over the forum (maybe I should). I've been roundly brought to task on this and will leave with tail between my legs. It never occurred to me to search for what seems to be such a simple failing in an otherwise outstanding program.

I will continue to use Explorer when I have to. Thank you all,

Appreciate the apology! And you don't need to read every thread every day like a couple of us do but occasionally reading threads, like the roadmap, and a bit of searching forum before posting new thread certainly helps all of us...and had you been a brand new user to both XY/forum, asking about this would be more typical so I just presumed someone with that many months of using XY would have seen the answer or known where to look already...hope you understand my reaction and that you return here often, ok? We're actually quite friendly, despite our curt reaction, but after seeing same question dozens of times, it can get a bit "Grrrrr", as you may guess!

And there are some things that Don has chosen to not implement yet (in some cases, I think due to complexity) and gone instead for some features that make XY unique which helps distinguish it from others for better sales...esp for things which will benefit Don himself as would be expected.
