There is no doubt that the wiki is really filled with loads of info and has helped me answer most of my doubts.

you can use the quick visual filter. using your exemple, just enter this in the address bar: |*.jpg to toggle the filter off enter only a pipe (i.e. the same as b4, without *.jpg), or use the toolbar button. Along with the current filtering features , there could also be a filter on the fly. There could be a small text box where users can type in the files to be found with a particular text in there name in the current directory. For eg There is a wallpaper folder with 1000's of files. Contains jpg , bm...
