Making my favorite files Short and Pretty

Post by stitches »

I looked through the wiki (and it's a great wiki, btw) and have read through many of threads, but my attention deficit disorder got in the
way and i'm about to cry.

How does one make your favorite names go from
c:\windows\randomfile.exe
to say something like

Random File

I need someone to hold my hand on this.

What you're trying to do cannot be done actually, not for Favorites. You can however use the caption you want on the Catalog, which can also holds "links" to files/folders, and much more (such as Visual Filters, Name Searches, URLs, etc)
And since I see you have lots of EXE files as Fav. Files, on Catalog if you add prefix file:/// on the destination, before the path/name to the file, then clicking on the Catalgo item will not make XY go to the file's location and selected it, but instead start it (without changing location obviously). That way you can start your favorite applications from XY in only one single click! ;)

And if you want to use the same files/folders you can import your Favorites into the Catalog, you don't have to "re-create" them all manually. Once imported, through their Properties window you'll be able to not only set a Caption of your choice, but also use colors of your choice (on a per-item basis) !

Is the order of favorite files/folders in this list fixed alphabetically? For exmaple, no files/folders in the D drive come above any files/folders in the C drive?

Yes, it is auto-sorted. You don't like it?

Come to think of it, this is another little thing that could be improved on by adding some way (even INI tweak) to allow user to define the sort option for these...Yes, auto-sort is nice but let's say I just added a new entry to fav files...I'm used to the existing ones being in a certain order/seq and the new one affects that...so I just might prefer the new ones be where ever I put them, as I can do with Favorites in IE, etc.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.
