Deleting file from Recycled bin creates duplicate instead..

Noticed that when I attempt to delete a file from the Recycled Bin in XY, (which I'm doing to clean-up/empty RB in a careful manner as I may have "deleted" some files prematurely), that instead of just purging file as Win Expl does (after a confirm msg), XY creates a copy of the file in RB under the internal filename (like DC810.BMP)!

Is this because of how XY has to interface to Windows? Or....???

BAD. DO NOT DO IT.

Any file operations in or from XY's Raw Recycle Bin view should not be possible! Last time I checked it was Windows 95

and it was not possible. Now I see under XP you can do all kind of stuff... something was changed behind the scenes and MS did not tell me.
I will not allow any of this anymore in the next release. Because: the Windows Recycle Bin is not a normal folder but rather a database with an internal structure that is interpreted when you view it in Explorer, and raw/uninterpreted when you view it in XY. The latter is just meant to view. Do not move, delete, rename anything there. You will just confuse/corrupt the database.

Ok...so then please put the handcuffs on that folder, ok?

Unless you know of a SAFE way to allow a delete, at least, from it?

As I noted in another thread, having the ability to preview a file in RB can come in REAL handy when one may have deleted something too soon -and- when the filename is vague (like VT362b.bmp from a scanner).

Out of habit, I've never accessed the Recycle Bin from any file manager. Is that lazy or sly? (If you knew me, then you'd vote "lazy" every time.)

I just tried v5.10.45 with the "handcuffs"...
On my W2K sys, they didn't lock
I was still able to 'delete' a file...
(Recall that on my system it's the "Recycle Bin" and not "RECYCLER", if that makes any difference)

How did you do it exactly?

Just as one might expect...went to RB in a tab, selected a file, used Del key, got std confirm msg, said ok/yes, and it "deleted" (or in this case, became a clone under a new name)...

BTW, just noticed Win Expl calls it Recycle Bin but XY calls it Recycled...

Just give me one more info to be absolutely sure: what the real path of your recycle bin resp. of the file you could delete?

I was expecting these too:
- FAT16/32: ?:\RECYCLED\*
- NTFS: ?:\RECYCLER\*

But you have them at least partly in lower case, right??

I'm running FAT32...and via a DOS prompt from C:\ and doing a DIR /AHS, it shows as "DIR Recycled"...so...you're more accurate than Win Expl as to name of it!

Why DOS. Just turn on XY's address bar, select an item in the recycle bin and look what's in the address bar.
Or simply look at XY's title bar.
Or simply hit Ctrl+P.

C:\Recycled\Dc2323.dat2 via a Cntl+P...
I simply used DOS to avoid any possible effects of XY on the name...

Ah, see? Recycled != RECYCLED... we got a sweet little bug here. And nobody will ever know why MS switched from "Recycled" to "RECYCLED" between Win2K and WinXP...

At least this is one of those 'simple fix' bugs compared to some that we've sent your way!

Now that we've got the right name for the culprit, the handcuffs should be on soon!

And nobody knows what causes M$ to do what they do!

Yes, 'simple fix' bugs are my morning cookies!

To be fair MS switched from "Recycled" to "RECYCLER". I guess in Vista it's "recyclE"...
