It would be better if GPSoft simply removed the page from their server. It will become increasingly out of date, so it is probably just an oversight. Don't be too hard on them. It can't be easy managing all your files without the best software.

Note that I decided to change "Flat View" to "Branch View" next week.

So you called Flat View as Branch View.
I am proud to have suggested it :)

Ok, but looking at http://www.xyplorer.com/release_10.70.htm, there is
For example, to branch view server "Server2" run this through the Address Bar (or simply press the Branch View toolbar button while the server is selected in the folder tree):

\\Server2\? /:flat
so just wondering why that 'flat' keyword couldn't be '/:bv' or such to make it tied to Branch View but yet not be 6 chars long which it'd be with '/:branch'? 'Cause using flat other than saying "Branch view is know as Flat view in some products" or similar might lead to issues...just inquiring.

You would still internally support usage of the flat keyword for user compatibility since you said it can't be withdrawn but not advertise it as openly and in future as on that page.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Ok...I just saw it as a bit of inconsistency by using 'flat' keyword when a shorter + more related 'bv' code could be used going forward but still not force any 'flat' keyword users to change would be a bit better approach.

flat works well, bv is too cryptic. The "branch view" feature has been published only a few hours ago -- let's see how the public responds. I don't expect any problems. I think my users will master the semantic gap between flat and branch. The whole issue has been very unpleasant for me (read: many hours of stupid extra work), let's not make it even more unpleasant (read: I've done enough here).

Wow, the same guys that threatened to sue me because I used the term "Flat View" for the feature that's now called "Branch View" now stole were apparently strongly inspired by my Tree Path Tracing (http://www.xyplorer.com/images/whatsnew ... cingOn.png) only 6 weeks after its publication (XY v11.60): http://resource.dopus.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17837#9

And it goes on, compare their "new group column" with my Dupes Column (http://www.xyplorer.com/images/whatsnew/DupesByName.png) also from XY v11.60: http://resource.dopus.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17837#10

Selling a product by an outrageous price does explain the reason why their lawyers are ready for action.
One day people will realize the truth.
Until then, let the creativity river flow peacefully...

...and watch the dogs bark!
(amazing, the laws of market: you can't have the name or you'll be accused of steal, but the whole feature being stolen un-elegantly taken without credits or permission or a mere notification it's another thing... wow!)

I won't even touch that beta as they may accuse me of violating industrial secrets...
And if I understood the feature wrongly, I may be accused of false testimony...
Man, this have no end...!

We have noted with some disquiet that software clones for Windows and Linux have been published in recent years which have apparently stolen many of our concepts and intellectual property developed in earlier versions of Directory Opus. Some have even had the audacity to use our trademarked names, copyrighted logos and ideas in the product names and related material in order to pass themselves off as products related to Directory Opus.
-can I quote them here or this will be considered another law violation???

Morons or not, such a company and such a company philosophy can be very dangerous.

Do you know the story of "Austrian Osterhase"? Probably not. Well then, I would strongly suggest Don to take his time and read this article (in German): Osterhase legt Hauswirth bittere Niederlage ins Nest Non German speaking people could run the link through a Google translator.

When I read such a story, a German word pops in my mind: Ekelhaft.

Yep, ekelhaft and würdelos (and a couple of other german words  ). I'm was really surprised that the dopus folks degrade themselves in such manner. Yet there is nothing I can do. They will get away with it and are praised and rewarded for my ideas. Well, **** it.

You're a little guy going up against what appears to be a larger outfit so you're kind of stuck...I feel your pain :(

We have a saying that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" -- how many companies have tried to make something like an iPad and failed? The only thing you can do easily is to clearly document on site that YOU introduced the feature before others did without naming names but giving dates...
