How about make "auto refresh" not immediately resort files? So that new files are shown last in the list during the session--until we manually refresh or close/open the folder again. This manner of behavior is helpful in seperating the newly added files from existing files during a session.

I know we can turn off "auto refresh" or use "suspend auto refresh" but toggling those too often is a hassle. What I'm requesting is an adjustment to how the "auto refresh" behaves so that we can leave it on without it being bothersome in some situations.

BTW: This is how Windows Explorer behaves.

Auto-refresh is auto-refresh. I think that for someone who wishes to have this unorthdox -- which OS's Explorer are we talking about? -- behaviour, you should be inconvenienced a little. Also, what about those who are happy with auto-refresh resorting files? I, for one, still remain hopeful that loss of focus would one day be construed as a commit of a rename and result in immediate sorting as per an option in "General".

So in that case, there is absolutely no harm in leaving this thread as it was and making a link from this tread to a new one if you really insist on a new one...

But there have been many threads where the concept morphed almost entirely over the life of the thread and it was never an issue...
