New Prices!

Post by admin »

I had to do some adjustments to international exchange rates, and to the big money crisis, and I lowered the relative price for the lifetime license. All this sums up to a BIG PRICE CUT especially for customers paying in US$! The lifetime license went down from US$ 59.95 to US$ 44.95!!!

To whom it may concern...

This price reduction comes very soon after I had purchased the standard license on Bitsdujour. It was asked then if there would be a discount for the lifetime license and the answer clearly given was "no".

If I had known that there was a price reduction coming for the lifetime license - I would not have purchased on Bitsdujour. Can you please provide an option for those of us who purchased the standard license on Bitsdujour to upgrade to the lifetime license for the difference?

thanks
Kevin

Welcome to the forum!

No, sorry, not possible. There's no upgrade discount anywhere in XY for anybody, not even for those who already got a discount.

I'm just a user so this is just my opinion: Don is a very honest and extremely hard-working author and always looking for way to increase sales, so I suspect that he may have decided to change pricing partially based on results of the Bitsdujour offer, and thus didn't intend to do so before the 24th...I certainly wasn't aware of any plans to reduce price until I saw it here on the forum.

And as I understand it, the process of issuing licences is automated so it's not really possible to determine if upgrade pricing would be valid.

Hope that you'll still be happy with your purchase and buy the lifetime at some point...the speed of development here makes it still a bargain!
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

I totally agree with JC on this.

No matter when any product is price-changed someone will always have just bought the day before. It is just one of those things but XY is not just one of those programs so enjoy it and save up for the lifetime licence, it is ridiculously inexpensive for a product that improves so much and so quickly - take a look back at the update history and you will see why XY is not just one of those programs.

As addendum to my prior post: Later today, it occurred to me that (presuming you paid in US $) should you now buy the lifetime at new price $45 (rounded) and having paid half-price for std via sale ($15), your total effective price is just about exactly ($60) what you would have paid for lifetime (without sale/reduced price) on Nov 23, for example...thus effectively upgrading for the difference...and...you now can try out XY for an extended time without the "nag"s and thus see exactly how much benefit XY will be to you later, right?

I bought the standard license from Bitsdujour when it was $15 when I was ready to purchase the lifetime license and I made this decision on the basis of the answer given that there would be no discount on the lifetime license. I had intended to hold off my purchase till end of the year to purchase the lifetime license.

Just over a week later, the price for the lifetime license was reduced significantly.

Yes, sure, I agree that there is nothing unfair about the deal. And Don has every right to change the price whenever he feels like. I wouldn't have said anything if he raised prices before I made my purchase at the end of the year because it was my decision alone to hold off the purchase.

Still - and I might be the only one - I am unhappy about the fact my purchase decision was made based on information that turned out to be less than accurate even if Don was completely truthful at the point he offered his answer. I had hoped he would take this into consideration in response to this appeal.

The poor economy might have forced Don to reduce his prices - but hey - its affecting the rest of us too. :-(

When that Bitsdujour sale was first made known here, I had a couple of PM's with Don regarding the possibility of having some sort of upgrade option...the applicable part of one response (which I believe is valid to share here, and was somewhat known before) is as follows:
admin wrote:This is what I tell people that ask, and it's true:
....first paragraph was here...
And: I cannot handle upgrading for logistic reasons. There are too many possible issues with making all kinds of mistakes for which I don't have the time as a one-man enterprise. I need the purchase process as stream-lined as possible to use my time for improving the program.
So given the amount of time that he has available, I think spending it on coding/development is a valid reason for not having upgrades...but again, that's just my opinion...I can relate to your feeling as back in 1973 in high-school, when I bought my first calculator (they were still new and somewhat expensive, like $80-100, and price of gas was around $.50 gal for ref), the price dropped by 20% two days after the two-wk return period ended...I still remember that after all these years!

The questions and answers on BDJ were referring to BDJ discounts, not general price policy.

I would not say so. I live in Euro-land. I reduced the Lifetime License a bit (by 12.5 %, 40 euro to 35 euro) to make it a touch more attractive than 2 times Standard License (2 x 20 euro). Additionally the international exchange rate development resulted in a further reduction for people in Dollar-land -- not my fault.

I missed the price cut and bought the lifetime license a few weeks ago. It was still a bargain though -- especially considering how much it gets updated. I'm finishing a computer science degree and can appreciate how much work goes into XYplorer :) . Thanks.
