Looked at that and saw the comment...maybe a similar concept on Lifetime but on subsequent/different date and for a lesser percentage off? Like 25% off or similar...

No, rather not. Lifetime is a great deal already.

Agreed! But I don't recall...is there any upgrade path available? Like many other software where you can decide later to get full vers and apply all/most of orig price paid towards more expensive vers, and in effect pay the difference later? If not doing so already, maybe this could be done to make XY even more desirable?

Addendum: That site doesn't make it fully clear that it's the standard license, or if it does, I didn't see it

No upgrade path. It's more or less the whole point of buying lifetime that you start saving money once you decide to keep the app for longer.

Standard" is the natural default, no need to say more about it. Also, the price makes it clear that it's Standard for anybody in doubt.
