Thumbnails: "Area Larger Than Limit"

Using XY v27.00 on Win10 PC.

I just started playing around with thumbnails as I have thousands of photos going back more years than I care to admit. Photos taken with my DSLR are showing a message "Area larger than limit" instead of the image. These files are in the 7 to 12 MB size with a resolution of 4272x2848. These images do not "naturally" appear as a preview in the Info Panel nor in the Preview Pane unless I click the Preview Now button. Is there are way XY can show these "oversize" photos as thumbnails without blowing up the cache?

Thanks.

Sure, check the MaxArea key in the INI and set it to 0: MaxArea=0

Thanks Don, that's perfect.

Would I be a fool to enable "Cache thumbnails on disk" and D"Create all thumbnails at once" so that I don't have to wait for the thumbnails to (re)generate each time I go to a new folder? I've got about 125 GB of photos currently.

Definitely enable "Cache thumbnails on disk" if you revisit folders.

"Create all thumbnails at once" only refers to the current folder. If disabled, only the thumbnails visible in the viewport are created, the remaining ones are created while you scroll them into view.

Thanks for the clarification. This has opened up a whole new (viewing) world for me.

Follow-up question...

Currently I have to open each folder in order to build the cache for that folder. Is there a way to have XY building the cache for the root directory or an upper level folder without having to open up each folder under it?

Thanks.

No, use a script for thumbnail maintenance (written by klownboy) and (maybe) a second instance to run it...
