Since some change in my Windows 11 PC (possibly a windows update), this one file type .ARW has stopped being able to display as a thumbnail and also in the file properties details tab, none of the Exif data is showing.

All other file types are handled normally and those relating to images such as .DNG, etc show all the Exif information.

The Exif information is present in the .ARW files and can be extracted with the Exiftool.

Have scoured the internet and AI tools for an answer but nothing has turned up that works.

My older PC is fine as well as a test VM running Canary.

Any ideas would be more than welcome.

Thumbnails need a thumbnail handler, properties need a property handler. The update seems to have thrown away the ones you had.

You might be able to find and reinstall those handlers from Sony.

I checked with Sony's website and cannot find anything that could be a thumbnail or property handler.

There was a page about a Sony RAW Driver, but it is also marked "Downloading of Sony RAW Driver has been discontinued since March, 2020".

There is also a page about the Sony Creative RAW Viewer which I have downloaded and installed.

It is worth noting that the Microsoft RAW Image Extension is also installed on my machine.

I have also rebuilt the Thumbnail Cache.

Apart from that I am at a loss as to what to try next.

Does File Explorer show the thumbnails?

Its the same for File Explorer and XYPlorer.

Sadly, it has made no difference.

I managed to sort the problem of not being able to view .ARW files as thumbnails some time ago but the exif data when you look at Properties, Details, only shows the camera model under Camera, nothing under Advanced photo or GPS. See attached file ARW file properties - details.png.

However, other RAW file types such a DNG show full details. See attached file DNG file properties - details.png

I have reached out to Sony, but they simply replied to contact Microsoft .

I was able to see the same type of details in the ARW files as the DNG at some point earlier this year. Why this is no longer possible remains a mystery.
