Width of the tree

I am of course comparing to the windows explorer, because this is all I know. kidding
But if I did, windows explorer uses half of the width of the parent folder to indent the subfolder, like this
----------------------- (width in half steps)
windows explorer:
parent
-child
xyplorer:
parent
---child
Which leads to a very wide tree and items disappear after a number of maybe 5. Pls don't tell me to widen the tree window.
Ridiculous:
xyplorer:
parent
---child
------grandchild
---------adoptedchild
------------idontknowthischild
Question: Is there a(re) way(s) to manage this without scripts? ( Don't know enough about the subject yet as I haven't decided to invest my time into the xyplorer yet. )
Question2: Is this not an issue that should chart on the wish list?
For the visual types, I've added a screenshot of how it is in the xyplorer. Although everything is easily verified, how things are.
