When creating shortcuts in xyplorer, my other network users get a target that isn't correct. When I click on the shortcuts, they work, but once they try, and it doesn't work, than those shortcuts no longer work for me.

Got an example?

If i right click a folder or file, and create shortcut inside xyplorer, I get this for example
when I click on said shortcut, it works:
when someone else clicks on the shortcut:


In this case, the picture 3 shows that the shortcut target was changed for the network user.

here is my setup. all computers have dropbox.
folders on drobpbox are shared across network, and then mapped as a drive letter so that all computers are using a P:\ (projects) or S:\ (standards) drive.

When I return to use that same shortcut, the target changed to some random driveletter and or path as if the shortcut created in my computer had some extra data stating that the shortcut acutally went to z:\MED Dropbox\Projects folder....
Why doesn't the target of the shortcut just point to the direction of picture 1 and stay that way for all users?

You have embedded 3 images in the middle of the post correctly, but image #3 is missing. Can you add it the same way you added the others?

Sorry...I figured how how to insert the images, forgot to remove the last sentence, and image 3 matched image 4.

When I tried on another network computer, that user couldn't do anything with the shortcut because it wanted my computer password. I realized that the first computer could use the shortcut because my username and password was added to the credential manager.

That said, when I removed the entry from credential manager on the 1st users computer, and retried the shortcut, I got the same response from both computers:

Makes no sense to me, since the shortcut when I made it was simply use mapped drive as previously posted in image 1.

Hope I'm making sense. If my shortcut created via xyplorer from my P:\, regardless if it's mapped, when another user with that same shortcut file on their computer which also has a P:\, the shortcut should take them to their P drive, not my computer.

Very confusing.

If I use windows explorer to create the same exact shortcut, the problem doesn't exist.

I suspect their is some option or setting that controls additional data stored in the shortcut that isn't there win using windows explorer.

Ok.

Well, that's a tricky one. Since MS stopped releasing useful information about the inner workings of Windows years ago, it's almost impossible for me to determine what's going on here. I'd say just make your shortcuts using File Explorer and get on with your life

Lol....I create shortcuts all over my network for my guys to train.

I have a way, using right click and another shortcut menu, but I often forget, and don't know it doesnt work until they try.
