.zip files are correctly previewed in the Preview Pane, but .7z and .rar files both result in "Not a previewed format".

.7z and .rar files are correctly shown in the hover box, so can .7z and .rar support be added to the Preview Pane?

Using XY 3.30.0200 on Win10

I'm seeing the same behavior as the OP. When I hover the icon to the left of the filename I see a popup show the dates and attributes of the RAR or 7z file. When I click on a RAR or 7z file the preview tab of the info panel shows "not a previewed format."

I have 7-Zip installed and it displays ZIP files as expected in the preview tab of the info panel. Since 7-Zip is installed as the default application for ZIP, RAR, 7z (and other archive) files, I can't figure out why one format displays the contents and the other two do not.

Because the preview uses the windows built-in zip functions.

I have disassociated RAR files from 7-Zip and restarted XY. Single-click on a RAR file still shows "not a previewed format."

So how do I get RAR (and 7z) files to be previewed? I'm having no trouble previewing ZIP files.

Did you read the original post you replied to? It is in the Wishes section, and is requesting the feature, unsure why you are trying to enable a feature that doesn't exist.

Oops. I thought it was the Bugs section. Just to digress a slight bit (and not to hijack the thread) XY can read/preview ZIP files, but no other archives? Is that correct?

That's correct. But, in my original post, I point out that the Hover Box is able to display the contents of .7z and .RAR files, so one would think the ability then to also show them in the Preview Pane should be an easy implementation.

And I'm not seeing that. When I hover over the file's icon all that shows are the file properties.

Here it works, check your Hover box settings (Select item types).

Thanks Horst. I'll consider my issue a user-error in that I didn't have it set up correctly.

From the look of the icon in your screenshot, you're hovering over a .rar file (using 7-zip.) And the archive contents are displaying when the icon is hovered. Is that correct? Because I'm still not seeing the contents of .rar file. But I do with .zips. I understand the OP here is a request to enable .7z and .rar files in the hover, but it looks like you're already doing it. How? Or am I mistaken? Again. :-)

Yes, when I hovering over any archive type files (zip, rar, 7zip) the content is displayed.
The request was to show them as preview and not only while hovering over it.
