Just updated to XYplorer 21.3. Can't Drag and Drop.

Just upgraded from 20.90 to 21.30. Did nothing else to the files. Then I highlighted 5 files in folder "A" and tried to left mouse drag them to folder"B". Folder "A" won't let me drag and drop any files. If I right click on the files and drag them, I get a "+" copy selection. In other words, Drag and drop just doesn't work. In the old version before the upgrade, I did work. Also, if I left click on one of the files and move it up within the same folder, the file moves to the new position within the folder.

I can do CTRL-X to cut and CTRL-V to paste in new location.

I know there is probably some simple button to click or configuration file to check or uncheck but can't seem to locate it.

Can some kind person help me?
Thanking you in advance.

Bob

And Configuration | General | Safety Belts, Network | Safety Belts | Disallow left-dragging from file list
is not ticked?

What is a "+" copy selection, this?

Responses:
The configuration file (And Configuration | General | Safety Belts, Network | Safety Belts | Disallow left-dragging from file list) is NOT checked.
The PLUS Explanation: If I RIGHT CLICK on a file and start to drag it, I get a PLUS icon indicating that if I drag the file into another folder, the file will be COPIED and not MOVED.

I hope these answers help you figure out what is happening. Remember, I just upgraded the program. I did NOT modify anything. Under the previous version, drag and drop worked. Under the upgrade, it does not.

Get http://blog.bahraniapps.com/gifcam/

and record a short .gif (one for the can't drag with left click and one for the right drag leads to copy, not move)...

Attached are two GIF files.
The LEFT mouse file shows the file only goes up or down WITHIN the same folder but can't move to another folder.
The RIGHT mouse file shows moving the file to another folder brings up new actions, including copy and move the files. The first two items were moved to the GIF folder. The third action copied the file to the GIF folder.

I want the files to MOVE without bringing up all the other actions and without the PLUS showing up. Just like a normal program would do.

Any ideas on how to "normalize" XYPlorer?

Disable Menu - Tools - Customize List - Manual Sorting

Left click and drag and if necessary hold shift (to move instead of copy) your files...

I have the very same problem.

This issues was raised in 2018, and
here were are in 2022 with it still going on.

I upgraded to the latest version 23.80.0300
and the problem exists,
I also had this problem with the version 23.70.0200,
so I skipped upgrading waiting for a resolution,
with the version 22.90.0100 I did not have this problem.

The few "try-out" resolutions suggested on this page
did not work, any more ideas ?

Thanks !

I should add that
the problem exists only
when trying to drag from right to left
but not when dragging from left to right.
How paradoxical !

Using fresh instance of XYplorer
(without my customized settings),
as suggested in a similar post
on this topic,
made no difference.

I am using Windows 10, 64 bit.

OK, weirder and weirder.

After some more playing around
I did find an interesting thing
that may point you developer gurus
towards a solution.

Problem :
straight "right-click + drag" to left does not work
i.e. when I release the mouse on the left side
the usual context menu (copy, move) does not appear.

Workaround :
after grabbing a file with the right mouse button
I first move it (without releasing) up or down in the right pane
and then move to the left pane - and "voila" - the normal
context menu appears on the left !!

Only a straight drag to the left does not work !

I can'r reproduce this problem.
Right mouse drag and drop in both directions works here,
there comes the menu with Copy / Move and many other option.

What also works is left mouse button drag and drop, with Ctrl to copy instead of move.

Thank You, Horst !

Yea, it's not a big deal, just a minor annoyance.

I made 2 toolbar buttons (copy to other pane & move to other pane),
but I like your suggestion much better (I wasn't aware of that trick) :
left mouse button drag and drop, with Ctrl to copy instead of move.

If You can't reproduce it, then it must be something on my system
that is interfering (FastCopy shell extension ?),
I will have to try eliminating shell extensions one by one
and if I find the culprit I will post it here.

Why are You mentioning Everything when describing your system ?

I most of the time only use Everything searches in all my file managers.
Its so much faster and can't be beat by any file managers native search function.
The typical search time is no more than a few seconds.
In Total Commander its integrated and for XY we have a script which stores the results into a paper folder.
Also the Everything GUI results can be feed into a paper folder to.

PUZZLE SOLVED !!!

None of the shell extensions are responsible.

The culprit is a mouse gesture (stroke) application
called "StrokeIt".

Beautiful toy, saves lots of time.
But is uses "right button down" to initiate it's actions.
I will have to review it's settings & try some tweaks
to hopefully avoid this interference with XYplorer.

HOW THIS MAY BE USEFUL TO YOU :
when other XYplorer users complain of drag malfunctions,
ask them to check mouse gesture applications
using right click mouse button.

Makes sense now ("right mouse down" malfunctioning).

Unrelated comment on Everything :
I use SwiftSearch, is just as quick (less than 1 second !!)
but it directly reads hard-drives master index,
does not constantly create it's own index,
thus it significantly prolongs SSD's life-span.

Thanks again, Horst, Tschüss !

I also run Strokeit Home .9.7, a very old version but still works fine with Windows 11
and don't have your problems with drag and drop.
The gestures I have defined are all made with the right mouse and start applications.
So there may be some specific config to make your problems.

Yes, it's a specific configuration I defined.
I use "left" drag to go to previous folder address,
and "right" stroke to go again forward (to latest location).

Because there is mostly no (more) forward to go,
dragging from left to right does not kill the normal context menu,
but dragging from right to left usually does have a previous address,
so StrokeIt kicks in & does it's thing but also suppresses default function.

It is amazing how such a prehistoric program like StrokeIt
remains the best, and works even in Windows 11
in compatibility mode for Windows Xp.

I am using StrokeIt version 9.6 that was made for Windows Xp,
there was some reason I chose not to upgrade to 9.7,
don't remember why, that was way back,
but it definitely was not reluctance to pay,
there was some technical reason ...
I will check 9.7 on my Windows 10 now,
thank You for reminding me !
