New User Questions: Focused vs Selected (+ color question)

I am functioning pretty well with my XY...feeling almost like a pro...Ok, LOL, but then...and yes, I have read and read but I am kinda pooped and just need a hand to hold: I come across terms I don't get:
Focused and Selected. (as in rows)
To me, they would be exactly the same. I am wrong.
Would this be correct: Selected is 'clicked upon once' (as in, you want to sit on it ...for some silly reason ...maybe to see it's preview, I'll have to see it that works.......but are undecided about opening it), and focused is 'double clicked' (as in, you've been very decisive and want to actually OPEN it?) I have a feeling that I just answered my own question. <thinking out loud sure helps. thanks>
One other thing: Color I am getting really good at.
But one color setting evades me: Focused color, I guess it is. I can't seem to change that. Maybe I will go back and look one more time.... <I am feeling very confident>
How did that man garble his file names in that screenshot? I am scratching my head wondering what secrets he withholds....and might need to do the same.
