I am so loving XY!!! I love my setup. I want to keep my setup, but download beta's over it each day. (Yeah, I'm addicted and can't miss the action. Call me weird--I mean, being a newb and a 5 year old compared to you guys, it is kinda weird to be so addicted, I suppose.)

Would someone please talk to me like I'm 5 years old PLEASE and tell me what to do to setup my XY to get beta's (load over my existing registered version: 5.80.0015 - Win XP)? (Loaded on my desktop computer...which is my main computer.)

I read thread about it, wasn't quite sure what it said to do, tried and nothing happened. (Clicked on a link and it tried to load another XY.) I am befuddled and in love, what can I say?

PS: I installed beta other day on my husband's laptop and did not see UNDO. Is it there yet? Don mentioned he is working on adding that feature in the future.

The process that I use (may not be best, but it's my way) is to:
1) Exit XY
2) click on the Install beta link in forum and get the open/save dialog
3) use the Open option so it downloads to temp loc and opens in WinZip
3) do an extract to my Downloads folder thus I have the EXE stored locally
4) Click on the EXE file and just accept all the prompts
5) At end, it will restart XY

Mine's close to that one, but if you close XY before downloading the beta you might feel tempted to use Win Ex to find the extracted exe.

My way:
1. Download beta
2. Open with Zip application
3. D&D the exe to the correct folder in XY
4. Start the exe & NOW exit XY before continuing with the installation

I used to use a process similar to those described above, but now use the automated method described in this link.

I just created a shortcut to the script on my desktop, and when I want to upgrade XY, I just double-click the the shortcut and I'm off and running...

If know this isn't really baby-steps, but I'm sure you can do it! (just like talking to my kids when they were learning to walk! )

Wow, thanks for the fast responses!!

I did it JC's way today (and now proudly sport the NEWEST XY !!!!!); will do Ralph's way tomorrow; and installed Andy's fav little macro program (AutoHotKey) already and will see if I can load the script and run it. YIPPEE.

BTW: Undo...I must have been out of my mind... I see it is roadmapped along with many, many other fantastic things...enough to keep Don busy (and cracking jokes to himself -- and to us) for many months. Undo will be awhile, I suppose. I can wait.....the entertainment ALONE is worth the wait. Thanks again guys!

Given that I've got both Win Ex and XY running 99+% of time anyway, and most often have WE pointing to my Downloads folder, it's not that much of an issue for me...

I've found that I need WE for things like Recycle Bin handling and one of my flash drives that XY doesn't fully recognize as being capable of long file names...
