Looks like your system does not support PDF preview. Which viewer are you using? Adobe? Try this to find out:

You dropped out of the thread saying "I will think about installing PDF-XChange Viewer." Maybe you should think about it once again.

I just installed PDF-XChange Viewer and all works ok.
I was hoping there was a solution without installing another PDF app.

Of all PDF apps, it's only Adobe that makes problems.

I have discovered that my preview is not working ok.
In my normal instance of XY I get a one page preview - see screen clip:

In a fresh instance of XY I get a multi-page preview - which I would like to have in my normal instance. See screen clip:

I cannot locate any difference in my configuration so any help will be appreciated.

The difference is "Preview as Thumbnail".
