Well, this does not take anything away. No sane person would type * anyway when TAF-fing.

Re: Type Ahead Find - How to find "11"?
I don't have much of an opinion on this needing a tweak - I just find it funny how so many are grabbing their pitchforks now when this behavior has existed for so long...
However I disagree with this:
Why is this a problem for the user?
Attempting to re-configure XY from scratch becomes frustrating.
It complicates creating step by step instructions for another user to accomplish a task.
It can make it challenging to determine the cause of a bug and how it can be reproduced.
Anything that negatively impacts Don also negatively impacts all of XY's users.*
Are they powerful and appreciated? Yes.
Do they create code cruft and become a hassle for Don? I'd bet many do.
Do they have any negative impact on the user? Unfortunately they have a few.
Are they worth it? Maybe?
* Off-topic: Every minute Don spends adding, maintaining, or working around tweaks or wastes trying to understand a "bug" caused by a tweak is one that delays Live Filters, Breadcrumbs, and the revolutionary Pony-Mode. It would be interesting to see where XY would be if Don refused to implement tweaks - not just in regards to software features but also size and happiness of user base.
That said, I am glad that Don gives us all of this rope that we can hang ourselves with.
However I disagree with this:
Tweaks are very set it and forget it - and given enough time users likely forget the tweak even exists. Plus, by their nature they do not contain much documentation, sometimes are not marked, and as Don continues to improve XY they occasionally go through odd changes (being promoted, demoted, extended, modified) which may not be tracked.avsfan wrote:Adding a tweak won't make it more complex from a user's perspective -- it only adds power to those who want it.

Hi TheQwerty,
I agree with every single word you so elegantly and philosophically expressed.
It hurts Don's revenue.
It hurts Don's rent.
It hurts Don's coffee.

You are quite the curious individual, armsys and I think you may be finding more between the lines than I ever intended.armsys wrote:Hi TheQwerty,

Hm.
You know, I will give you the tweak just to show you that the current behavior does make sense. You will thank me for not adding that tweak as a feature.
The behaviour after setting the tweak to 1 is exactly what would make sense in my mind... and apparently in other's too. I'm still trying to figure out what use case can prove that I'm nuts loladmin wrote:So? Do you admit defeat now?Marco wrote:Challenge accepted

Sorry for a nutty question:
Which section of XYplorer.ini should include the tweak: TAFNoRepeatCharCycle=1?

Re: Type Ahead Find - How to find "11"?
Of course, I'm aware of XYplorer.ini.
My questions:
[1] Which section in the XYplorer.in?
[2] Can I insert TAFNoRepeatCharCycle=1 under [General]?

If you follow those instructions and save your settings then all you have to do is search XYplorer.ini for the tweak.

You NEVER add the base tweak line - it gets generated when you update to the vers that it was added in and then save your settings as it says in that post, ok?armsys wrote:Of course, I'm aware of XYplorer.ini.

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Thanks for your guidance. Sorry, I'm a rookie in tweaking XY.j_c_hallgren wrote:You NEVER add the base tweak line - it gets generated when you update to the vers that it was added in and then save your settings as it says in that post, ok?
