Yeah: use a file compare software.obelisk wrote:Is there any way to compare 2 text files and see where the differeces are?
Hi, welcome to XY! What you ask is not there. However, I do plan to add a simple "same or not" function. But to show the differences ... no, I don't think that's the job of a (unbloated) file manager.

For comparing text files:
When I needed to do this last year for some Perl code, I found and have used the following (from the ReadMe):

I'd recommend this program as a solution...I looked at and tried a few others and settled on this one...it was the closest to what I had available back in my mainframe days from IBM...but this is from http://www.prestosoft.com/ps.asp?page=edp_examdiff#3ExamDiff(TM) Version 1.6m

ExamDiff is a freeware Windows tool for visual file
comparison. It has a number of simple and convenient
features that many users have been asking for a long time
from a file comparison tool.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

another one that I've been very happy with (after trying a bunch of others) is WinMerge http://winmerge.org/.
It's also free, and has been able to do a more thorough compare than most (if not all) of the others I've tried, and allows easy merging of the two files.
I'd recommend taking a look at it!

Looks like I may need to check out that WinMerge product!
The screen shots look quite promising...but the website looks a bit funky on my IE...there is a total blank area on right side, and what logically should be there is at bottom after the ads...

But I agree that the interface looks good. I shall definitely have a look at both WinMerge and ExamDiff. Thanks JC and avsfan
