Animated gif will not play a preview

Post by davidhelp »

How to fix?

This issue is the same on 2 computers. Both have Windows 10 Pro.
I have XYplorer 28.30.0100 64-bit open with thumbnails showing. I double click on any gif that is animated and it opens and plays but when I place the mouse cursor on any animated gif and hold down the left mouse button I see a white rectangle open where I use to preview the animated gif.

A regular non animated gif will show a preview. A jpg, webp, png, txt, mp4 etc. all show a preview.

I cannot delete the thumbnail cache from toolbar> Tools> Configuration> Preview> Thumbnails to the right - Cache path: Thumbnails\

Error -2147467259
Error: -2147467259 (0x80004005)
Desc: Unspecified error
Dll: 0
Proc: Deleting cache files failed.

And that file is probably locked, quit XY, try to delete the cache again

Thanks. Now fixed after re-installing the 32-bit version.
I also had issue with how slow XYployer opened.
Taking 6 seconds at times or more. Very annoying!
I had recently installed the 64-bit version thinking it would be better.

Steps to fix:
First I made a backup of my settings / layout.

File> Savings Special> Save Conguration As
I saved a copy of my settings / layout to the desktop.

I uninstall XYplorer 64 bit and installed the 32 bit version.
It picked up the settings that are left behind in the folder listed below:
"The new configuration file must be located in the application data folder C:\Users\YOUR name\AppData\Roaming\XYplorer64 folder"
It is called XYplorer.ini

Now when XYplorer opens, it is under 2 seconds.
I made XYplorer the default file manager.
Tools> Configuration> Other> Shell Integration then on right side checked box for "XYplorer is default file manager"

If you are aware of the very few problems still related to the 64-bit version (due to TwinBasic still being developed itself and XY thus facing a few issues) there is nothing keeping you from enjoying that version.
I have switched a few months ago and haven't run into any problems that made be go back to the 32-bit version but as we know, everybody's requirements and priorities are different so everyone has to decide for themselves...
