PDF Preview MDBU
Running XY 26.10.0205 on Win10
After many (many!) months of struggling to get PDFs to preview with MDBU, I finally have it working. I ditched FoxIt Reader and (reluctantly) installed PDF-XChange Editor. I say reluctantly because I really don't like its GUI. But I will get used to it since I now have the ability to preview PDFs.
If I open the preview tab in the Info Panel, all PDFs look as I expect them to... However, if I MDBU on the file icon, it looks like this, which is not what I would expect... This does not happen with any image files, Office documents, nor any other file that can be previewed. Only PDFs.
Am I missing a setting somewhere?
Thanks.
EDIT: The only way the MDBU preview is sharp is if I disable the Apply zoom option is the MDBU General settings. But the it displays the entire first page extremely small, which is also unreadable...

Re: PDF Preview MDBU
Weird, they should be way bigger out of the box, of course. I'm not aware of any setting in PDF-XChange that would limit the thumbnail size (that's what this preview uses: thumbnails).
What about the Hover Box on PDFs, is it also small/blurry?

Re: PDF Preview MDBU
There is no such effect here, regardless if Apply zoom is enabled or not.
In both cases, the small image by hovering over the icon
and the large one by pressing the left mouse button are crystal clear.

Re: PDF Preview MDBU
Oops, I forgot to mention I'm using PDF-XChange Editor Plus 10.2.1. builld 385.
I get no hover box when hovering... If I hover the cursor over the icon (or the filename) nothing happens.
Left-click on the icon provides a fuzzy PDF which goes away when I release the left mouse button. MDBU
Right-click on the icon provides a fuzzy PDF which appears until I click on it and then goes away.

Re: PDF Preview MDBU
Thanks Horst...
I mimicked your settings and the (now two) issues did not change. The MDBU PDF is still not sharp. And there is no hover box when hovering over the filename.
EDIT: Typo

How come you have no hover box? Check what's ticked under this: Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show Hover Box | Select Context...

Re: PDF Preview MDBU
That's a very good question, Don. I've been wondering about this myself once I noticed it didn't exist for me. Everything seems to be selected properly.

Re: PDF Preview MDBU
Assuming I'm doing it correctly (-hovering- the mouse cursor over the icon next to the file name with no clicking) I do not get a hover box for -any-thing. No PDFs, no image files, no text or document files, no nothing.

These aren't all offline files in the cloud by any chance?

Re: PDF Preview MDBU
Unfortunately they are not. They're sitting right on my local drive.
I just noticed that when I hover over an icon or a filename in the list, I -sometimes- get a popup window showing the filename and extension. I'd guess it's happening less than half the time I hover.

This is crazy. Maybe someone has an idea what's going on.

Re: PDF Preview MDBU
I figured you'd like a good challenge. I think this new discovery will make it worse. How much beer to you have available for immediate consumption?
I had forgotten that I have XY installed on another PC. I opened that up and saw that hovering over the icon (only) opened the preview popup. I mimicked the settings in File Info Tips & Hover Box to the initial (problem) PC and there's no change. While I was at it, I noticed that the MDBU previews are as fuzzy on the second PC as they are on the PC that sparked this thread.
I, like you, am totally confused by this. If the settings are the same, I would assume the end result would be the same.

Re: PDF Preview MDBU
Perhaps if I feel ambitious enough I will create a set up another portable (no install) version of XY on the same PC that's having the no hover issue. And copy the .ini from the other PC to this install. By rights that should fix the no hover issue. Then I'll be left with reconfiguring the second instance to mimic the problem instance.
Do you see anything wrong with trying this: Other than the time needed to get all the settings from the first to the second instance.
