Change size and position of video preview controls

Post by Xenon20 »

Hi,

I work a lot with video files, and I often need to do a lot of scrubbing through videos to find sections that I want to keep / edit.

When I use the preview in the info pane, the controls are relatively small and over to the far right hand side. When I use the preview in the preview pane the controls are reduced and are over to the left hand side.

Q1. Is there any way to change the behavior to scrub the preview when dragging across the seek bar? (i.e the video preview updates as you drag across the seek bar)

Q2. Is it possible to change the size of the controls (especially the width of the seek bar) so it's easier to scrub through time positions with a higher degree of accuracy?

Q3. Is there any ways of changing the positions of how and where the controls appear?

(My Utopia) - mouse down on a video file and keep pressed which pops open a window where you can scrub through the video by moving the mouse left and right, then when you let go of the mouse button, the preview window closes. It would be even better if you could set a resolution control which determines how fast it scrubs (for different length videos).

Thanks

Hi,

I'm afraid that's three no's on Q1 - Q3, and your utopia doesn't exist for video, but it does exist for audio (called "quick audio preview").

Did you know that you can left-click and right-click the progress bar, and that there are keyboard shortcuts for preview control?

Hi Don,

Thanks for confirming. I did find that you can use the shift / control and left / right arrows to jump through in predefined jumps which is still useful. I can of course use dedicated video editing software for doing this kind of thing, but it was more with regards to quickly remind me of the video content and to help with decisions on file management.

Also I do have a lot of audio samples for music production, so it's good to know this ability exists with audio files.

Many Thanks,

Also note that you can set the time from which the video preview thumbnail is taken: Configuration | Preview | Preview | Video Preview | Skip
