Resycle error or what - finding lots of $ files?
Cleaning up a D: drive with random searches. Finding a few thousand files with a leading $. What is this? Is there an error some place?

Like what?
The links you provided were too general.
I can understand if this was a problem with an old version.
To dispose of all the 4KB "empty" files it would be helpful to see the exact byte sizes. Did that survive as an option that I have not found?
My google found nothing in either case.
Have a nice weekend.

This problem is in no way related to XYplorer, so I will step out of this conversation now. But if I were you, I would take a look at those files. I mean, maybe you know them...

Re: Resycle error or what - finding lots of $ files?
I don't think the OP will see anything by looking at them if they're all zero byte files as the pop-up in the screenshot indicates.
A question for the OP: are all these files in the recycle bin? If so, undelete one of them and take a look. But if the undeleted file size remains at zero bytes, you may as well empty the bin because whatever they were, they're now gone.

Re: Resycle error or what - finding lots of $ files?
Thanks for your reply.
It is from an F3 of $ (the only input is the $ sign) search of the D:\ root
I know all the legitimate files. From the search results with zero or 4KB "disk" size tell me nothing.
Did this die or is that a hidden option posting.php?mode=reply&t=26491#

The tooltip already states that these are 0 byte files^^ Restoring them would lead to... 0 byte files^^ Empty your recycle bin, done.

Re: Resycle error or what - finding lots of $ files?
As highend and I have pointed out, the files are zero byte files and they're in your recycle bin. All files in the recycle bin start with $. This has nothing to do with XY. Empty the bin and move on.

It's still fascinating to have lots of 0-byte JPG files (assuming there are many, which is what I meant by "need more info").

Have deleted more than 2000 items, did not go back to Recyle bin, and have at least another 2000 to go - saved for you in case you or others have an interest.
How about the option to display actual bytes - does it exist? Is it available? You saw the two quotes.

Are you aware that you can simply right-click on the Recycle Bin and click Empty Recycle Bin. No need to remove deleted items one by one. Or ten by ten, or however you're doing it.

I'm seeing bytes for each file in the Bin.

I just redid my D: search of $ same result in KB.
Other places bytes same as you - as if magic :-)
