Feature wish - more customisable context menu

Post by Shutey »

There are three things I would like to do with the Tree View context menu which I have not found a solution for in XYplorer.

1) An option to open a folder in Windows "File Explorer"
Now and then I switch back and forth and would find this easier than manually opening File Explorer.

2) The ability to add links to other applications eg. "Open in Treesize"
I use Treesize a lot and this is available on File Explorer context menu by default but not in XYplorer.

3) The means to turn off/hide links to other applications that XYplorer put there during install e.g. "Add to VLC Playlist"
There are several links in my context menu I don't need that just make the menu long - I'd like to hide them.

If any of these already exist and I've missed them can someone please put me right.

Thank You

Unlikely that something like this will emerge in the next future. Best option: Custom event actions (middle click on folders) and scripting

While I realise XYplorer is in competition with File Explorer it feels like an oversight for XY not to allow a folder to be opened in FE.
This would at least enable me to run Treesize without having to navigate to the folder in FE to do so.

Mh? The Treesize context menu entry appears on right-click on a tree item folder and it displays that folder inside Treesize when used just fine. No clue why this should be an issue...

What you describe is what happens for me in File Explorer and I expected would do so in XYplorer but for me it doesn't. On the basis that it is working for others, I have uninstalled and reinstralled Treesize latest full version but it has made no difference. I get links in the context menu to other programs but not to Treesize which is the only one I really want!

I have noticed that although I am using Windows 11 Pro on a 12th gen i9 cpu, XYplorer has installed in Programs(x86) folder suggesting it has installed a 32 bit version. Treesize is 64 bit and I wonder if this could be the reason XYplorer isn't giving me access to Treesize in the context menu. I don't recall being given the option between 32 and 64 bit during the installation.

XY is a 32 bit only app and TreeSize is installed as 64-bit here

Then use it via command line parameters in the CEA as I said in a previous post like
run lax("C:\Program Files\JAM Software\TreeSize\TreeSize.exe" "<focitem>");

Try enabling this and see if it is there:

Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | 64-bit Windows | Show the 64-bit context menu

Okay - I misread web site - took "compatible" to mean it was 64 bit.

I have turned on/checked the Show the 64-bit context menu.

I now find if I right click on a "drive" in tree view I do see Tree Size but not if I click on a "folder" on that drive! I didn't right click on a drive before so I don't know if this is as a result of turning on the 64-bit context menu. It is a step forward but I do not want Treesize scanning my 5Tb USB drives! I need to be able to access it at folder/subfolder level.

Did I mention I am new to XYplorer. What is the CEA?

If you click on a folder in the tree but hold the left mouse button down and right click, in the menu that's shown click on "Open by Shell"

Oh wow - thank you that helps me a lot. I just wish all these excellent but hidden features were a bit more accessible/easier to find or least find out about. I would never have thought of left down and right clicking to find a menu!

Thank you very much.

The so-called rocker-click. :) It's a one-hand alternative to Ctrl+Click.

While it's understandable to be "dull task", maybe Help could get a page mentioning all places where "Rocker-click" can be used(possibly with links to other pages of Help to elaborate more info) = that will make easier for users to actually find a feature.
