open folders w/ single-click but files with dbl-click
Hi Don, all,
Not sure if this could be scripted already, but it would be nice if we could open folders with a single-click but at the same time files with a double-click.
(I had to work for a while on a PC without XY and had to fall back to FreeCommander that supports this setting. It is really comfortable.)
Regards, auto

Re: open folders w/ single-click but files with dbl-click
Maybe this isn't quite what you want, but with this setting in Configuration > Menus, Mouse, Useability > Mouse, a single click on the folder icon will open a folder and a double-click will be necessary on a file.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: open folders w/ single-click but files with dbl-click
Hello klownboy,
Thanks for your reply. I know about the single-click on item only option, and yes, it is not what I meant.
Besides, with the settings in the image, my XY implementation (pretty fresh one) treats both folders and files the same way.

Re: open folders w/ single-click but files with dbl-click
Hi autocart, yes, they are treated the same. I suppose I got accustomed to single clicking the icon to open folders and I've always double-clicked filenames to view or open files.

Re: open folders w/ single-click but files with dbl-click
It's an original idea. In the tree, folders also open with a single click, so there would be some consistency. I'll consider it.

Re: open folders w/ single-click but files with dbl-click
Hi Don, again,
As a follow-up wish, I would wish for folders to open faster when I use this single click option.
Right now it often takes 0.5 to 1 whole second for XY to navigate into the single-clicked folder.
When I use other traditional means of navigation, it is much faster.
If you have any ideas of why this is the case and if it is fairly easy to improve, then that would be great.
Nevertheless, thank you for the effort so far.
Regards, a.

How do you ever select a folder or a range of folders in a pane
with this strange setting ?

Re: open folders w/ single-click but files with dbl-click
Yes, it seems that Don has done a "quick implementation" without much quality control.
The plus side is that the user quickly gets 2/3 of the feature to work with. Sometimes this is enough.
With the particular point that you mentioned, I know of at least the following 3 options:

With the particular point that you mentioned, I know of at least the following 3 options:
- I can either click an drag a selection rectangle by placing the first click in some "white space" area (at least with my settings).
- Or I can right click on the folder and then again Shift + right click, etc.
- Or I can activate and use check-box selection.

Oh, right, of course I can also use keyboard selection:
Press Ctrl + Up/Down and then Space or Ctrl + Space.

Re: open folders w/ single-click but files with dbl-click
So to omit a 2nd click to open a folder
I have to use strange complicated keyboard or mouse actions
for doing normal work.
For me a no-go but everyone has its own preferences.

Wait, I see it now! Fix coming...
(I did not see it at first because it only happens when the folder is already selected, right?)

Re: open folders w/ single-click but files with dbl-click
I mean that, if you choose to implement new or improve existing features, you mostly do it very quickly, as in this case.
This has, as almost everything in life, both benefits but also disadvantages.
The benefit obviously is that the new feature is generally available sooner than later.
But the disadvantage is that you often implement it only 2/3 of the way and don't take the time to maximize the user experience.
Of course, you are by no means an exception in doing so. Most software development works like that - yet not merely as fast as you.
Still, I see this method as bitter-sweet. I would rather like for everyone to work like NASA does. Slowly, but thoroughly.
But for sure it is better this way than no development at all.
