(a) If an instance of XY is already open: Via the folder's shell context menu item "XYplorer" (which is there if you check "XYplorer in shell context menu" in Conf/Advanced.
(b) If not: currently not possible. By the above method the current tab will be set to the new location (unless it is locked in which case a new tab is created).

Does anybody else know any registry tweaks to make XY the default file manager??

I saw something on other forums like this, but not brave enough to try those. :(

yeah, i read that and tried. i can get only explore (win-key+E) to work, but not the normal clicking on folders from desktop or anywhere outside xyplorer.

Edit: the link i mentioned before uses different set of registry keys as compared to one given by jacky. i am a novice here, so just pointing out this difference.

Ok.. so I played a bit with my registry, yes seems the Directory key is the key! 8)

So I updated the wiki's FAQ with now what should be the best way to go, and that hopefully will work in every case for everyone! :D

It works!!! :D . (not completely though)

Went to Control panel>Folder options>file types>File folder>Advanced

clicked 'New' and set the action to 'open' and application to 'C:\Program Files\XYplorer\XYplorer.exe'.
Also clicked Set default for my new 'open' action. Clicking on any folder now opens a new tab in XY.
But special folders like my computer and my documents dont work with this. (I dont care much actually).

But i checked my registry and a new entry 'open' was created here:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell.

PS: WinXP SP2 home edition

EDIT: Thanks jacky you were faster in posting. But I figured it all out from here and there. Thanks!!! the registry tip in FAQ looks awesome.

 :?: Hm, I just wondering if in case (b) always a new tab should be created for the destination passed in the command line (indep of the current tab being locked)?!
