Consistent default button on List Mgmt sub-menus

I can sorta understand why it's the way it is, but...a very minor tweak would make things a bit more consistent and only require one extra keystroke on occasion:

When I 'open' a LM sub-menu, such as Visual Filters, and there are none defined, the default button is "New", which kinda makes sense...
However, if there are some entries, the default is "OK", so one can bail out just by hitting Enter..(which is the inconsistency)
But when one hits Enter on empty list, now you've started to make a NEW entry! :P (And I may have selected the wrong sub-menu so just want to bail out)

So...I propose making "OK" the default in both cases...and IF you're on an empty list, getting to the "New" button will just take a "Tab", which seems not that much overhead as compared to having to think about which/where one is to bail out with no changes.

This never got any response or comments since Aug 2006, and it's still an issue that I'd like to see addressed, as it continues to be a nuisance...so...anybody else have any opinions on this?

I looked at this without the benefit of using this feature a lot and I do not follow your analysis.

It seems to me that the default actions are correct as they are.

If the list is there then OK terminates the process
If the list is empty, then the default is set to add a new aitem which, to me is correct, and if for any reason you wanted to bail out then the Cancel is there.

Whilst you can,and do, state it is inconstent. for me and I suspect other inexperienced users the layout seems very consistent and clear.

Thanks for the feedback! Someone who doesn't use this much is also the audience that I believe would benefit from the change.

The problem is, IMO, that one has to perform a special action (tabs or move of cursor) to cancel out each and every time one selects an empty list, whereas I propose to make the one extra keystroke needed only once when you add the first entry.

I would find the conflicting choices confusing as a new user, as I would expect them to be same default for all choices in LM.

If there was a method to scroll/move thru the various LM entries, then this would be much less of an issue, but as of now, one has to back out and reselect should you click on undesired entry...and to back out, I can't just hit Enter (a nice big key!) but have to relocate focus to the OK button.

I tend to agree with graham here, and I think there's one way that you can always bail out of the LM (or any other window for that matter) using the same key no matter what : Esc

Actually, I use it all the time, whenver I want to close a window I opened but didn't do anything for whatever reason, I just press Esc (or click Cancel on occasion)
