Hey,

Okay so the idea had already been mentionned a couple of times over here, about having our own XY-dedicated wiki. I think we all agree(d) that wikis are a pretty damn cool way to create together a nice & complete website about somehting (whatever the subject).

So lately I've been working on bringing the XYwiki to life ;) and here it is: http://88.191.26.34/XYwiki/

It should cover pretty much all XY has to offer and be up to date with v5.10.0000.

Of course it's a wiki, so everyone is more then welcomed to contribute and add/correct/etc all that might be needed.
It uses the well-known MediaWiki software, so all the usual syntax for MediaWikis apply to XYwiki, if you don't know how it works you can take a look here. This page has been written by/for Wikipedia, but it basically covers how MediaWiki works.

Right now there are basically only one new "tag", used to made list using the XY little orange arrow. To do so, just use "@" instead of "*" for regular list, eg:

Code: Select all

@ first item
@ second item
Note that to create/edit pages you will need to create yourself an account. It's a little free step made to (hopefully) avoid some basic spamming.

A few last thing and i'll let you "wiki" ;)
- Some subjects might not be really detailled, eg. when it comes to Views/Thumbnails, since I don't really use them personnally.
- The Keyboard shortcuts is basically just a copy/paste from the Help file. Might even be incomplete, and it may need some "idea" to make it more easy to read/use :?:
- Of course any ideas/suggestions/remarks/etc is welcome!

A quick search says that my post from March 9th was likely the first occurance of the term wiki on this forum, but due to my business duties, I was unable to do anything about it...so...to Jacky:

:D Great job :!: Thanks for doing this :!:

Am looking forward to helping add whatever tips/improvements/corrections (that I have time for) to it!

Hope it doesn't get too obsolete trying to keep up with Don's releases!

I'm hoping that the wiki is being backed up on daily basis and safely stored offsite or on another service so that it won't get lost? Wouldn't want to lose all the time and effort we've put into it due a server crash somewhere...

Yes, I hope so, too. Jacky knows...

And I'm already wondering whether there's a software to convert a wiki to help file. Would be coolest!

Found this via Google: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 921AA1tHg3
Which deals with converting it to HTML...which might be able to be used as intermediate format...

Ah yes. Our wiki is MediaWiki, so we can have those XML dumps...

hmm back up you say? backup.. backup.. give me a day ot two to look what I canf find about this and I'll let you know.. :P ;)

And no I haven't had the time to make an automatic system so the DB is backed up every day, so I have to do it manually. But yes, of course, I do it ! I wouldn't want to loose it either beleive me!

Haven't looked for a conversion to help file, but I will too. We use MediaWiki which is a well-known & used software so I'm sure there are a few convertion tools out there.. .;)

:D A big Thank You to Jacky :D

I just found XY and while some of the functions are indeed intuitive, some of the gems are easily missed. I am so glad that the wiki exists as it is so useful for a beginner to quickly find these gems.

Thanks again for job well done :D
