      The 2nd example is particularly interesting if you use XYplorer on 
      portable drives: the little "?"-trick makes you independent of 
      the local drive mappings! Double-clicking (or <enter>ing) a file 
      in XYplorer will cause it to open in an application stored on your 
      thumbdrive, independent (a) of the file associations maintained by 
      the local copy of Windows, and (b) of the local drive mappings. 
      What more portability do you want? 

This sounds interresting, allthough I'm not sire if I will presonally use it, but I got a remark anyways

I'd have thought that, in such case, the drive used would not be the one where the file is, but where XY is installed/running from. Cause if you go to a computer and plug your USB stick or w/e to work on the computer; you might wanna use this with your own (XY's) file association so you use your own favorite text editor, etc and not whatever is installed on the PC.
But ATM this would only work for files on your own drive, not if you try to work on the PC's drives... Am I the only one who find this behavior somewhat odd/unexpected??

ps: should be a popup/something when the association "fails", instead of just doing nothing. Might look like XY just doesnt respond to the dbl-click/enter/etc

By "fails" you mean the associated app was not found. Yes, good idea.

Ok, just uploaded a fix for that whoopsy little bug, and also a new patched version of that bit of history.

Just an idea while I was thinking about this: maybe your popup could add "Do you want to try openning the file with the Windows (registry-based) association, if any?"
