A pdf Floating Preview shocker!

Post by aurumdigitus »

In order to examine the Beta's ability to show were one is in a list of pictures downloaded the No-install Zip. The new features works fine!

But while looking at files found to my great surprise the Floating Preview was displaying images of pdf's. My long registered install version does not!

Any ideas as to what settings should looked at to try to get it fixed?

Really quite perturbed and annoyed to have made this discovery.

Maybe the PreviewShellIfNoneBetter tweak?
Or DoPrevShell / NoPrevShell?

EDIT: Sorry if that's not extremely helpful here. It works in both a fresh and the long-standing install for me, so I'm just making random guesses. :P

@ TheQwerty - Thank you for giving some Tweaks to check out. To use some old terms from BASIC have PEEK and POKED those areas to no avail. Alas ...

It is frustrating almost beyond measure that the "play" copy of XY displays the pdf's but my "real" registered copy does not.

As Thomas Paine once said (albeit in a greatly different context), "These are the times that try men's souls".

You have a copy of XY that opens PDFs in the Floating Preview (instead of just showing the shell thumbnail of the PDF)? WOW, cool. Up to now I have not added this functionality. Can you mail me that copy of XY?

Mea maxima culpa. It was a matter of terminology. The latest portable version shows a thumbnail of the first page of a PDF; it does not open the file per se.

The question remains as why the portable trial version shows them and my old faithful installed version does not? If you could offer some suggestion it would be appreciated.

Ancillary note - in installed version Info Panel|Preview does display image but not in Full/Floating Preview. Have given some thought to going with portable and junking the installed and rebuilding from scratch. But that is extremely laborious! And what if Preview then quits working again? :?

Do you have a screenshot of that phenomenon?

Neither of this is a "real" PDF preview as you get it in the Info Panel. All normal and unshocking.

Note that a "real" PDF preview for the Floating Preview is planned ever since, of course. Actually I implemented this right-away from day one of FP, but some nasty focus issues with IE came in the way and could not be solved. One day I'll try again.

@Don Please forgive my lack of mental acuity here. How come it works is the portable but not the installed? How can it be revived?
