See Contents Of Many Folders

Hi Folks, so far loving XYplorer...

I have a question I hope someone can help out with.

I have a some internal folders that I want to see the contents of in one tab. Is this possible with XYplorer?

I tried running search for the folders I want in certain location which pulls them all back which is great. But I want to see whats inside the folders and when I change the view to branch view it shows the internal folders also which I don't want.

A similiar function to windows 7 libraries is what I am after really.

Cheers! :)

You could do a multi location search, and store it in a locked search tab. For example enter this into the Address Bar and press Enter. It will show the contents of E:\Test_A\ and E:\Test_B\ in one list.

Code: Select all

E:\Test_A\;E:\Test_B\?*
(of course, use folders that exist on your system)

I think you can also do a multi-select (<Ctrl+Click> the subfolders you want) then when you apply Branch View, only the selected items are shown...

Great thanks that seems to work, not the prettiest of ways to do it but it works...

Is this broken now. It asks me to create a folder with the complete name. I tried entering it AB and Location field in the find files tab.

I came across this whilst searching for a small hack provided by Don to support libraries by creating a search template. Any pointers to that.

It is supposed to go into the AB and it works fine here.

Sorry, my mistake.

I interpreted ?* as the wildcards. The pattern shouted out loud when I created the folder structure provided in the example.

Is there a way to Branch View of a folder, where the files of each folder are displayed beneath their folder? Like in Directory Opus.
Now I'm able to see the folders indented in one solid group at the start, followed by the files, indented on their own. It's hard to tell which file belongs to which folder without looking at the out-of-the-viewport column with the real path. I didn't find an option about this.

Not sure what you mean. Isn't this what you are talking about? http://www.xyplorer.com/images/whatsnew ... ewFlat.png

Me think it goes like this

1.) Menu "EDIT > Show All Items In Branch"

2.) Click at the header of the path column to "Sort by path"

Note: Menu "View > Sort By > Sort Folders Apart" >>> unchecked
BranchView_FilesBeneathFolders_001.png

I don't know at the moment how to get that "indenting" effect like in Dons' picture.
EDIT:
There are option for that: Menu Tools > Configuration > Find Files & Branch View
But that doesn't work for Menu "EDIT > Show All Items In Branch", which results in "H:\TEMP\xy\FLAT-Test\?* /r"
That indenting only works for me with Menu "View > Views > Branch View", which results in "H:\TEMP\xy\FLAT-Test\?* /r:flat"

And; I was not able to see "folders only" in path column, I always see the whole path. I didn't found the right switch till now.
BranchView_FilesBeneathFolders_002.png

So now I see we have:
"EDIT > Show All Items In Branch" >> "\?* /r"
"View > Views > Branch View" >>>>  "\?* /r:flat"

Which irritates me

(And; I always search for "Show All Items In Branch" in the View menu, why is this "Show" feature in Edit?)

Yes, there are many options for branch view, all scattered all over the place, and I'm confused.

Yes, Don, I meant exactly what you have shown in that image. It's a mode of displaying items like in many programming IDEs - a folder and its items beneath, indented.
The indenting works as found in the Branch View Settings (12 pixels default), but I couldn't make files displayed just beneath their folders.
On your screenshot the sorting order is not the Path as we see. And I don't want to mess with sorting orders when I view branch view, so there must be some other way as shown in your screenshot.

Simply check everything in the Branch View configuration. Then the list should be auto-sorted by path, with all the indenting you want.

Or look at the factory defaults, which are also good for getting the desired indented view when turning on Branch View.

BTW, that screenshot of mine indeed has no visible sort order, mysterious! :? I will change it...
PS: Got it. At that time the list had to be unsorted to achieve that sorting effect. This is long over, but I cannot update every old screenshot.

filter for files only but switch off "let folders pass all filters" in config/branch view
