Nowhere can I find an upgrade discount for existing users, we have to pay the same as a new user, is this correct?

Unfortunately, that is correct...I don't recall exact reasons why Don chose this approach but think it may be due to the administrative overhead/duties that doing so would require and since he's a "one-man band", doesn't have the time to deal with it...The best thing I can suggest is to wait and see if he'll do another BitsDeJour sales that he's done about once a year in the past.
Addendum: Found this post from Don about this topic:

Regarding BitsDeJour offers... I am really not completely sure, but I think I recall that these offers include special program versions with future updates restricted in certain ways. My advice would be: It hurts, but just say "Damn it, why didn't I..." and buy a pro life time licence, if you can.
@Don
However, Don, it is the fact of life that one has to work much longer in certain parts of the world to earn some fixed EUR amount of money. At the same time, I guess that your international sales will rise with the introduction of MLS. Maybe some mechanism could be installed for the automatic discounting of some parts of the world or so.
Just an idea.

Thank you both for the disappointing news.

Absolutely. I often thought about this and I'm all for it, but never found a good way to implement it. But you are right, now with MLS, such a discount becomes even more meaningful. I'll meditate about it...
