Log file?

I am looking to find a file manager that will keep a log file of operations.. Not sure if this is the right place to ask.. If not, please excuse me.

The other day, using Windows Explorer, I copied about 70,000 files and 10,000 folders from the root drive of my computer to a networked drive. The full path/filenanes were very long, almost approaching the 260 character limit, and when copied over to the networked drive, there were about 100 or so copy errors. These all showed up in a dialog box after all the other files were copied over.

Because the file names were so long, they were truncated in the error dialog box and not identifiable. The only option was to skip or cancel (and I am not sure what the difference would be) and I had the option with a check box to repeat this action for the next 'x' number of files with a similar error. The problem I had was I would have no idea which files were not copied without an error log, which of course was not available in Win 7 Windows Explorer.

So, my question before I try XY: is there a log file function in XY that can keep track of copy errors?

Yes!
If you use the Custom Copy function, then every error is logged.

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!

Not only is there an error log, XY also has built-in features to display and/or check path/filename lengths so you can locate those with extra long names ahead of time and rename them to shorter ones...

See http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6875

also, file info tips via hover gives length of name + total len as well.

Ok, thanks for the reply.. I will download the eval package and play with it.
