I have the Show folder sizes in file list option enabled, and C:\Program Files is one of the locked tabs I keep open at all tiems in XYplorer (I'm using 5.00.0025 right now). I only mention the directory because it's a good one to use for reproducing this issue...

I've found that if I select C:\Program Files in the left pane, and then double click a subfolder underneath it in the right pane, while the folder sizes are still being calculated, the subfolder is opened in the locked tab that used to be C:\Program Files, rather than opening in a new, unlocked tab, which is what should happen.

I couldnt reproduce this in 5.00.0020 will install the 0025 beta and report again.

Cannot reproduce with 5.00.0020 either. Just to be sure this is what i tried:

I locked the c:\program files folder. used shift+f5 to calculate folder sizes and immediately tried to open a subfolder (eg. adobe). The subfolder opens in a new tab, unlocked. The calculate folder size in the original folder stops.

It's not an easy problem to reproduce, and doing it the way you are probably isn't how I reproduce it--when I do manage to. Reason being, when I do Shift+F5, or even close and relaunch XYplorer, the Program Files directory (complete with folder sizes shown) loads far too quickly for me to double click a subfolder in time. In other words, it may be that it only happens the first time I run XYplorer after rebooting.

Oh sorry... i tried the shift + f5 thing. when i check the option "show folder sizes in file list" in config then i can reproduce. sorry for that.

Yep, I could reproduce it, too.

A thorough solution would be to calculate folder sizes *after* browsing is completed (like thumbs processing); which would also need a re-sort if list is currently sorted by size.
For logistic reasons I can offer only a small solution at the moment: you'll not be able to open a subfolder by one dbl-click while browsing/calculating is going on. Instead the first dbl-click will abort any calculation and allow the browsing to complete.
