Hi,

it could be I'm not seeing the wood for the trees - if so, I'd like to apologize in advance.

Scenario: I would like to save the current overall layout. "Current overall layout" means, well, just the current layout with its pane and tabset/pane configuration.

Rationale behind: I'm usually using a one-pane-only layout. But at least once per week I need a dual pane setup (to trigger and verify my weekly backups). So today, I opened up the 2nd pane, did my stuff, and afterwards tried to save that layout - to recall it on any weekly backup day in the future.
To my suprise, I failed to find a related command in the menu bar or the context menu. After doing a forum search, I thougt this thread could be my friend. But after digging it, I'm not sure wether it's a wording thingie/my lack of understanding or a real matter of feature availability.

Hence: How can I save a one or two pane layout to be restored easily?

i'm not sure, but it seems to me what you want is to save some specific tabsets, don't you? then you can make tabsets for both panels for later calling them when this your "2 panel event" occurs.

the other way round: those specific tabsets "should" be part of the layout, as well as the remaining GUI state (e.g. Catalog on/off, Info Panel on/off).

Thats the way I'm doing it right now: Show second pane (F10), then loading the tabsets. That's working and having tabsets is indeed a great feature. However, sometimes a "one click" restore would be even better.

for the time being Catalog, Info Panel etc aren't "connected" to tabset, so it's impossible.

you can make a script with two options: one would open second panel and load 2 needed tabsets; the other will "take process back" to your ordinary workflow.

Layout snapshots in the sense of the OP are not possible. But you can do kind of "total snapshots" by using File / Settings / Backup Application Data Folder. You can then load XY with a command line switch (/ini=<path to app data folder>) to load this "total snapshot". Such loading can be done by simple one-line scripts from the Catalog (possibly an included/shared Catalog), so you can easily switch between different layouts. But: Nothing is shared between those "layouts" (no history, settings, catalog... -- only a shared catalog any maybe tabset with an absolute path outside the app data folder).

There has not been a large demand for Layout Snapshots in the past. Technically it would be possible and quite easy to add. Maybe later...
