XYplorer.ini without SaveSettings, but "changed"

I don't have "Save Settings on Exit" selected.

But I just happened to notice that on terminating XY the change-data/time of XYplorer.ini is changed to the current date/time. That is: it seems something *is* written! (Though maybe nothing is changed.)
(It's enough to just start and stop XY.)

Does this make any sense?

(I wanted to look how many days ago I manually saved settings - and was surprised it was today...)

Confirmed. This has always been like this. The only key written is the "Save settings on Exit" key -- to remember that you don't want to remember. But, yes, this can be handled better. Will improve...

Don't really understand...

After setting "Don't Save Settings on Exit" I always manually saved, as I expected it wouldn't be saved otherwise. Now it seems that wasn't necessary?

Now I verified, that (after your change) on simple start/stop XY the file wasn't written again. Fine!
But what would it mean if I would just change the setting to NoSave? Would this be saved?? Or how should I interpret your words?

But OK, thinking about that: I would expect it to be the hard way! That is: from the moment I de-select "Save Settings on Exit" I would not expect any setting to be automatically saved on exit. And if I want to save this new setting I have to do it explicitly - just as I always did. This way it always does what it says - you never must explain exceptions...
(And in the moment I select "Don't Save..." it becomes my responsibility to do so.)

By the way: funny, that "Don't Save Settings" was the reason that a setting was saved...
I didn't expect this.

Yes, it was indeed done automatically, so what you did manually all the time was not necessary. :P

This logic is very old, from before it was possible actively save the settings I think. But it does not harm now I think.

Question: What if someone has Save Settings off and then updates their license key? That's not really a setting but is stored there.

It works.

Isn't this the kind of "smartness" you don't like?

If the user selecting "Don't Save Settings on Exit" were responsible for what he did you could save quite some logic, I think.

But don't get me wrong: after the change it's not a problem at all.
Thanks for that!

Yes, the "smartness" I don't like? But before I added this (long time ago) users unticked "Save settings on exit", then closed the app, and began writing me mails asking me why their setting did not stick... I had to stop this.
