2 Pane file compare

Would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to do a 2 pane file compare, i.e compare (visually) file A & file B - with both files visible at the same time. I know I can Lock Tabs on each file but that only lets me view one file at a time (have to open/close tabs). Thank you.

No, for this you'd need a so-called "dual-pane" file manager.

Until such time as XY gets this feature, (if it ever does) I'd suggest Xplorer2 which has a pretty decent free version, (at least last time I checked) that I'vce been using for some time....

I'd also recommend WinMerge (
http://winmerge.org). Very nice and fast! (and free, too!)

Hey!! thats damn easy. Just open two instances of XYplorer and tile them vertically or horizontally. You can request Admin to have a button made which can do this instantly. Might sound a bit funny, but its functional. what say??

Warning:
APO (author's personal opinion)!
(1) Dual pane is an out-dated interaction paradigm. That many folks still go around preaching for it must come from a mixture of habit and para-religious nostalgia for Win3.1/Norton Commander. What a joke!
(2) Visual comparison is not really cutting it. Not with a lot of data. Hey, this is a computer, not a chalkboard. Let the machine compare!

Peace!

We still want the functionality anyway! Thanks.

Well, I guess you are not aware of the XY roadmap. 7th on the list is dual pane.

Good thought, surrender
I requested this some time ago...
otherwise this must be is possible to do with a autohotkey script?
(something to use while waiting for a dual-pane...)

Yeah, I like it. And it's more powerful than Dual Pane because it's
Dual Everything (DE). 2 parallel previews, 2 trees, 2 catalogs... dual-kicking ass I'd say.
I mean *I* don't need it, but I heard there are some freaks out there...
So, who wants the DE button?

Well, i dont want to spoil the dual-pane (DP) party, but it took me some 30 seconds to open 2nd instance of XY and switch off everything except list and align it next to the 1st XY to make it look like dual pane. Well, its functional and ofcourse you can have like DON said dual everything if you want.
I know Don has finally made up his mind on making DP and it features in his roadmap, but as an alternative for those who want a simple second instance, Don can offer a button which can toggle between normal XY and pseudo DP or DE, with 2nd instance of XY (with list-only) by default sticking to the right side of the 1st XY list. Just a thought.

I wouldn't mind dual everything - but only if I can specify a different .ini, catalogue and ks.dat (if I choose to).
