Missing Files and Folders

Hi to All.

I have a problem displaying a files and folder in XYplorer in Windows 7-64. If I go to let say Windows/System32/Drivers it only displays couple folders and couple files. All drivers are invisible and Folder ETC is missing.

I do have check made on Show System Files and Folders and Check on Show Hidden Files and Folders.
I don't have the problem showing the stuff in Windows Explorer.

Other thing is missing, is my Camera. Each time I hook up my camera an new device can be seen in Windows Explorer which is my Camera name. I can click on it to open, and then go to the files and folders but In XYplorer is invisible so I can't get to it.

Thanks

Hi and welcome,

For the System32-problem please see the WOW64 Redirection-topic in XYplorer's help file.

As for your camera, it probably uses a shell namespace, which XYplorer doesn't yet support.

OK thanks. I will try this later.

Is there any other directory that gives this kind of problems Or is just System32?

As the help topic states, this only affects System32 and all its subfolders.

The same thing (or something similar) is happening to me, but I am running XP pro 32bit.

Sometimes while I'm expanding a folder in the tree panel, only some of the files and subfolders are displayed. It seems to be random. Refresh used to work to correct this, but not anymore - I have to close and reopen XYplorer.

Help - this is not good.

Awkward, but not related: the System32-problem is a delightfully 64-bit issue and is about WOW Redirection, whereas your issue is a refresh problem.

By way of stupid first questions:
1. you have Auto-Refresh enabled?
2. could you post your Configuration > General > Tree, settings or a screenshot of it?

But when he says:

it seems it's not just a refresh problem.
Though I think it's not an XY-Problem. But a bad one...

If memory serves, the tree should listen to most events these days (in the past, performance problems meant the tree was updated outside the current folder sparingly). It could be that something outside XYplorer is blocking these events, but a manual refresh should overcome that. It doesn't make much sense for outside interference to block the original XYplorer instance but give a new one a free pass, unless some listeners or callbacks got corrupted?

The inability to correctly read parts of the folder being expanded, until restarted, smells like something XYplorer has a hand in to me. I do hope someone who is actually qualified will soon take a look...

Are you sure? I've never seen this. What files are missing? Is there any pattern?

Yea, quite sure, it did it earlier today. No, I cannot find a pattern, but I will pay more attention to it next time and take some screen shots to make absolutely 100% positive. Today was the first time in awhile.

I have the same issue: Not finding the folder "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" with XYplorer. I find this folder with any other file manager (Windows Explorer, XPlorer2, Directory Opus) but not with XYplorer.

I checked the XYplorer's help file:
These are the redirections invoked by WOW64 for 32-bit applications on 64-bit Windows:

C:\Windows\System32 ---> WOW64 redirected to ---> C:\Windows\SysWOW64

C:\Windows\Sysnative ---> WOW64 redirected to ---> C:\Windows\System32

So if you need to access C:\Windows\System32 you specify C:\Windows\Sysnative instead.

Note: To enable the Sysnative solution you first have to create an empty new folder C:\Windows\Sysnative. Then you can go to e.g. C:\Windows\Sysnative\drivers to access the 64-bit C:\Windows\System32\drivers.
I created an empty new folder C:\Windows\Sysnative. But during creation it seems the folder already existed.

But still not finding C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.

I tried to find C:\Windows\Sysnative\drivers\etc also but without luck (Xplorer2 finds it).

What do I wrong?

My system: Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

The most sure way is to open an elevated command prompt and enter the following command:

Code: Select all

md C:\Windows\Sysnative
Trying the above with XYplorer or Windows Explorer is more involved.

That worked. I opened cmd as administrator and added the folder. Strange thing is that Xplorer2 already found that (not existing?) folder before.

I wonder why XYplorer has such a problem, but Windows Explorer, Xplorer2 and DO doesn't.

Thanks for your help.

I decided to work on this problem and solve it for good.

Question: does anybody here use the WOW64DisableRedirection tweak?

Nope.

Interesting and exciting short-term road map, btw.
