Locking Copy

Hi,

I'm having problems with the Custom Copy feature. I've enabled the background copy functionality, but when I copy large ammounts of data (ie. 1Gb) I have the XYPlorer interface locked when using slow devices (ie. USB pen)

It happens too when copyint to/from network drives.

Any idea how to solve this problem? Is this a known bug or it's me doing something wrong?

thanks in advance,
luis

Enabling Configuration > File Operations > Background Processing > Enable background processing, and applying it to at least the first four options, should help.

Hi nas, thank you for your fast reply.

But I think I've not made it sufiently clear. I already have those options enabled. It's working great when copying from HD to HD. But when copying from/to USB or Netshare drives the XYPlorer interface locks itself (not the copy windows, but the XYPlorer window).

Again, thankyou for your reply. I hope you (or someone else :D ) could help me.

Anyway, I'd like to know if this is something that only happens to me or maybe to someone else (maybe I have some bad USB driver, etc...)

Sorry for misreading. I've answered what I thought was this question a bit too frequently, it seems.

I haven't seen this myself or read about it on the forum, and theoretically it shouldn't be possible: once XYcopy.exe (the secondary process that does the actual file operation) is handed the job, it shouldn't bother XYplorer.exe (the main process which does the GUI) until it's done.

Could you list the output of Help > Various Information (by right-clicking Select All and then Copy) as well as your security software? Also, does excluding both XYplorer.exe and XYcopy.exe from real-time scanning, help?

My antivirus is McAfee 4.5.0.1810. I can't disable it because I run my PC in a secure windows domain, with no permissions to change it. But I don't see any HD activity (other than file-reading the files that are been copied, of course) using the Windows 7 resource monitor , while the UI lock is happening..

thank you again :D

Thank you for the info. Unfortunately, there aren't any specific clues, although I personally don't trust McAfee very much with regard to problem-free operation.

Two things you could try are:
1. trying the latest beta (currently 10.50.0023);
2. running XYplorer with a clean profile by copying only XYplorer.exe and XYcopy.exe to an empty folder and running it from there after quitting your regular XYplorer instance. You would need to set Configuration > File Operations, as Custom Copy isn't enabled by default.

Just for Info: how long does the lock last? Until the end of the complete copy, or less?

And how does this look, if you copy several files at once?

Hi,

It's a bit funny :? . If I change the active tab just after the copy starts, to any other not related with the copy (nor source nor tarjet folders) the interface is responsibe again.
Then, If I change back to the destination folder, the UI is locked again (clock mouse cursor), until the copy process ends with the current file. Then, I can change the tab again... but not the the destination tab, because then the UI locks again....

So, if the Tab that I select is not in the same unit drive I can use XYPlorer normally. If its a tab to the same drive the UI unlocks after each file is copied.

I hope this can help you :D

(I'll try the clean installation solution you said before and will let you know how it works)

Strange indeed! Are you sure that XYcopy.exe is really used for the job? In other words, is the job listed in the Background Jobs window when it's finished?

Sorry for the delayed reply

Yes, Background jobs window lists this job.

Example of test done some hours ago:

-Completed 3 hours ago in 2:07 h Custom Copy 6 items to "Z:\" (3.600 files processed: 3.417 new, 183 over, 0 skip) Completed. Initiated: 17/11/2011 13:23:22 Started: 17/11/2011 13:23:23 Completed: 17/11/2011 15:30:17

I've tested a network to network copy, to make it slower. There where a lot of small files, so the process was really slooow (2 hours!). mostly because of our network here, we are having some problems today. But the same copy with Internet Explorer is much faster (30 minutes more or less...) The Copy Window was all the time frozzen (sometimes it repainted, while changing from one file to other), and the XYplorer was frozzen for minutes when trying to do something in the related tabs. When I was moving in my local HD it was ok.

Well, I cannot explain it. It should not be possible in the current type of universe. :|
