Probably you've already thought of this, but Catalog should follow Tree Style preferences (Show Icons, Show PlusMinus, Narrow Tree).

It's an idea.
My plan:
phase 1: finish the catalog
phase 2: use it for some time
phase 3: tune it from usage experience

So we'll see in phase 3.

Fa' sure, it's a post-working enhancement. Good idea to leave it for later. I hate it when I code something really nice and then end up throwing it out...
